Best source for nice biothane tack?

A buddy of mine wants a rain-proof, no muss, no fuss bridle.

I’m a Tack Snob which means I’d like to recommend the very best to her… even though my tack snobbery has kept me in woeful ignorance of biothane tack.

Thank you for your help, understanding and expertise.

Taylored Tack - Amanda Taylor. Nicest biothane tack out there, and trust me - I’ve shopped this type of tack a lot. She does custom work with outstanding materials - soft, flexible, gorgeous colors, gentle on the horse, yet strong and durable. Nothing harsh or cutting. I throw my breastplate and halter/bridle in the washing machine after each use, and it comes out as perfect as the day I bought it. I love the no fuss care, and it’s ability to handle mud, rain, snow, ice, dust, and dirt with equal ease, and continue to look and act elegant throughout.

Your friend would love it.

You can tell her the recommendation comes from someone who uses all custom leather classic (expensive) harness for driving her pair, including custom made English neck collars. Nothing lowbrow in my tack room. So when I say something is nice, I mean it.

I like Zilco, it’s available at Riding Warehouse, is inexpensive, and they are always offering discounts.

A few others are Two Horse Tack, Running Bear, Hought, and Distance Depot.

I don’t know Taylored Tack (heard good things) but I’ve used a Running Bear biothane halter/bridle for years and been very pleased with it, FYI.

My two favorites are Hought & Taylored Tack. If she’s looking to mimic leather, I would go with Hought, and order beta. If she wants color, there are a ton of options, and Taylored Tack has some unique designs.

I don’t have firsthand experience yet but I’ve been considering a dressage bridle from Higher Mark. They were recommended to me and look quite classy in pictures. You can get custom colors, sizes, and style and the owner is super responsive to emails.

www.thedistancedepot.com Great service.

I have had a Zilco bridle and breast collar for several years. Very happy with both as I can just throw them in the washing machine and they come out like new. Also they are PURPLE which is very fun and looks great on my Chestnut girl. I have not tried any other manufacturers so can’t speak to anything else but do really love my Zilco stuff.

Another expensive post for me. Taylored Tack was irresistable. Gorgeous!

I use a Zilco halter bridle purchased from RidingWarehouse and I love it!
They had very good customer service when I called for sizing details (my Haflinger is cob size in some measurements and horse size in other). Their guidance was superb. Not sure I will ever have a regular bridle after having halter/bridle combo in betathane. I also have a Yonies beta harness and a Camptown harness beta/russet leather. The Zilco is as good quality as either of those. Good luck to your friend.

Zilco is nice and functional.

If you want top quality and pretty (tack snob levels), I’d recommend hought, taylored and distance depot.

I have all zilco tack because it is the most economical good quality option. That said, I drool over hought, particularly as the maker, Gail is a 15 minute ride from where I keep my horse. The taylored tack I have seen is the same quality and the distance depot is very nice.

Taylored Tack and Amanda Taylor are the best. Easy to work with, quick turn around time, great communication, and quality, good looking tack! Amanda talked me through all my questions and nervousness about going to the dark side of bio thane tack.

I originally ordered from another vendor I had read about on here. I placed the order online, but never got any kind of confirmation. I tried to call them and got an answering machine, for 3 business days and then a weekend. I left a message to cancel my order as they never contacted me to confirm it and ended up initiating a dispute with my credit card company. On business day 5, the owner finally called me and said they would gladly cancel my order and refund to my credit card MINUS 20%. She finally agreed to refund all my money if I called my credit card company off the dispute, as it in some way negatively affects her relationship with credit card companies. (Only going by what the business owner told me.) Oh, and her reason for not contacting me sooner- they were on vacation, but could not be bothered to change their business answering machine to reflect that or have any type of message for customers ordering online!

Parry Harness is another good one.

The Distance Depot is second to none! The Distance Depot has made tack for the USA ENDURANCE Teams and they just made the tack for the AERC Rose Parade Group! They have a great selection of different styles and will make anything to custom measurements, if desired. Their customer service is excellent as well.
