my Vet wants my horse on Vitamin E for muscle soreness. She said Safflower oil 1/4 cup is OK. I had my old gelding on Elevate Vitamin E liquid 10cc a day after he had a muscle injury from a accident. I’m just wondering what everyone is using.
I buy the vitamin e pills from the store. Walmart has a brand, Nature Valley I think, that is pretty affordable. I would sometimes wait until CVS has a buy 1 get 1 free deal.
I buy Santa Cruz natural vitamin E in bulk from Walmart online (the ~$84 bag). It’s the best bang for your buck, especially if you need to mega dose (8000 IU +). I have also purchased the human Bronson vitamin E off of Amazon which is pretty cost effective. I find that all other equine vitamin E is more pricey, unless you want to pay for certain conveniences (like Smartpaks).

Also in a pellet:

What are you buying for $84 from walmart, @drafting_dots?
The UltraCruz Natural E, or Spring Valley, or any brand which gets you in the $.10-13/1000IU range. Pelleted equine E is more $ than powder.
Always break it down to the 1000IU cost level so you’re comparing apples to apples.
Powdered Santa Cruz is $0.109, pelleted Santa Cruz is $0.112 per 1000iu. Teeeeeeeny difference. Nearly insignificant. Both 11 cents for 1000 iu with rounding.
@Simkie Oh no! It’s gone! I had been buying the 4 lb bag. I bought one at the beginning of the year and one a few months ago, both for $84. I found it by typing the product in google and it came up on the shopping tab. They better bring it back!!
It’s still there - ?

But, a while ago, they realized they had mispriced it, so it’s $138 now for the 4lb.
Thanks everyone. I think I will go with the Santa Cruz.
I tried the powdered, but horsey didn’t like the taste/texture much and would eat meals, but over time, and occasionally flipping his pan to avoid the powder, even though it was mixed with soaked beet pulp. When I finished the bag of powdered I got the pelleted, and now he scarfs down his meals like before.
The price difference is pretty minimal, and I would prefer he enjoy his meals.
She said she was buying from Walmart, not direct from Santa Cruz
I just checked, you can buy it from Walmart (Santa Cruz) but it is $137.95 for the 4 lb bag.
I use the Santa Cruz too, although for my mare, I have a custom blend of various supplements done through HorseTech which includes 5000 ius of Vitamin E. Pricing is similar with the custom blend (because I’m getting several different things), but their straight Vitamin E is more expensive then Santa Cruz. Overall, I think Santa Cruz is the most price effective I’ve seen. Going to try their pellets next time!
That is the same as at Santa Cruz. I’ll just keep ordering directly through them.
Lol, yeh fer sher! Got me all excited thinking I could get it on the cheap.
Lucky lucky
Yeah, the old price was definitely good! I still buy the 4lb bags from SC. I have no trouble feeding the powder.
Mine are also fine with the powder, but I keep meaning to try the pellets! Sometimes when I add water the powder poofs up like crazy and I feel like I lose some of it. Or a lot of it :-/ It’s so fine!
try adding the powder to an already wet mixture. I was making baggies with RB, flax and Vit E powder to be dumped onto wet beet pulp and didn’t have any problems with it flying away.
