Best stirrup irons for jumping?

i’m lookbig for something grippy, safe, and comfortable. What do you guys recommend? I’ve been looking at the Jins, Lorenzis, and freejumps. Any one have those? What other brands do you recommend?

I have an unconventional pair but love them beyond words. The Acavallo Opera irons. Not expensive…light, but not too light…nice wide footbed. I adore them. But people do notice and ask me what the heck are they lol.

ETA: Smartpak has them now.

I have a terrible ankle and riding in a fixed iron causes Nagpur discomfort. I have the Sprenger 4 way stirrups and love them.

I love my Jins. Wide, grippy footbed. I like that they are lightweight.

These actually look pretty cool!

I actually prefer heavier stirrups- makes them easier to find and get back when I lose them! I just swapped out the footbed for metal cheesegraters in my no-name fillis style irons, and they’ve been more secure for me than many other more expensive brands. That being said- my friend hates that style because they make her ankles hurt and much prefers a jointed stirrup, so there’s definitely a personal preference aspect.

I have FreeJumps and I absolutely love them. At some point I hope to have them on all of my saddles, but right now I only have one pair and have MDC stirrups (which I also like) on my others. I hate lightweight stirrups, so I haven’t tried the Jins, but I have a couple of friends who seem to like them.

My only complaint about the FreeJumps is that you can’t run them up like normal stirrups. But I really love that when I want to ride without stirrups I can just pull the stirrups off my leathers and set them on the fence. Because of that, I could also easily swap them from saddle to saddle super easily (each saddle would just have to have its own set of leathers).

Do you have the Lite version or the Pro? Do you know what the difference is?

I just bought these a month and change ago and I am transformed. I had been a devoted bendy stirrup person but some of the feedback I was getting was that my foot/lower leg was moving too much and smarter/more observant people than I were noticing that it was likely tied to my stirrups. I switched to these and there have been many improvements.

I will say, get covers if you go to lunge with these on the saddle. They do rub a bit.

I have freejump stirrups, I love them. My daughter rides in the lights and I have the pro. Back when I bought them the light had a weight limit but now the difference is minimal, they don’t have the metal treads to supplement the plastic and are a bit smaller.

I have the Pros. As bluespece2 mentions, the Lites are made for children/young riders (up to 60kg according to websites).

And I don’t know why they call them lightweight on some of the US websites (like Dover), because they’re not. They’re about the weight of a regular fillis stirrup.

Has anyone ridden in the Jin and FreeJumps? What do you like better and why?

I love my OnTyte’s!

What are those?

OnTyte’s are a magnetic stirrup. The stirrups are offered in regular, jointed and composite, but they do require you to resole your boots (or you can buy paddock boots already with the sole) … but they provide a wonderful secure base. I really appreciate them when starting/riding my young horses. They have certainly helped me keep my stirrups and regain my balance when my horses decide to get “acrobatic”.

I’ve ridden in the Jins, and I have a pair of the FreeJumps. I was such a hater on the FreeJumps until I tried horses in Europe and actually rode in a few pairs. I can’t really put into words why, but I just feel they set my leg in the right place, they don’t move like a jointed iron, so my leg is still, yet somehow feel more comfortable than a regular Fillis iron. Now that I’m going to be a mom, I like the safety aspect.

I felt like the Jin footbed was so large I couldn’t get enough flexion in my foot. I just didn’t have the oh wow feeling when I rode in them. I much prefer how they look, but how they feel matters more to me.

Is this stirrup legal for Hunters and Dressage.

I should have stated I was meaning the Ontyte

I tried the MDC and like them, but their width makes it hard for my ankle to flex as much as with the regular fillis iron.

LOVE my Freejumps.

Made a huge change in the stability of my lower leg. Plus they don’t make my knees sore.

I had tried Lorenzini’s and hated them, the Tekna flexi ones and hated them and something else that I can’t remember anymore and they were my favorite. Ordered them through Divoza with a 25% off coupon and they ended up being just slightly more expensive then what cost is on them.
