Best summer riding tights/breeches that don't have a hard seam in the crotch?

Anyone have a recommendation for sticky full seats that are
• great for a humid summer and,
  • are super comfortable in the crotch?
A recent return to my "summer" breeches (smartpak piper's) revealed that last year's pain problem may not have been my saddle or position causing me pain in my nether region - it's the dang breeches! The winter tights I was wearing (Kerrits) didn't seem to cause this problem - they were comfortable enough that I forgot the pain had been an issue for me. I guess I thought my position had magically improved with the cold weather, or something, but I'm starting to think it's definitely the clothes.

I’d love suggestions of anything you think would fit the bill - I’ve traditionally been on the poor side of the financial spectrum, so have historically only worn budget items. As such, the wider world of breeches is not something I’ve explored, and I’ll admit I’m a little intimidated by all the choices. Luckily, a new job means I can invest in a few nicer quality pair now! What do people like? FITS? Pikeur? Should I just explore the Kerrits line (since their winter tights seemed to work for me)? While comfort is most important, I like a good cell/treat pocket and color choices. (For what it’s worth, my build is pretty average - 5’5, 125 lbs, normal length leg and well-padded posterior.)

Thanks in advance for any suggestions!

  • I have had no problems that way with my Pikeur, Cavallo, or Horse full seats. The seams selvedge is spread out if that makes sense. It could also be an issue with the depth of the crotch or rise of the pants. Do you get any hint of the problem sitting on a chair or walking?

@Scribbler , no hint of the problem until in the saddle, and only after some time in the saddle at that. I did get my pants tailored to bring in the waist (they were waaayyyy too loose in the waist otherwise), so perhaps that changed the fit. I will look into the brands you mentioned - thanks for the suggestion!

A good pair of well fitted breeches are worth their weight in gold.

I swear by my Pikeurs, Arista and Tailored Sportsman (full seat ones.)

A second vote for Pikeurs! I’ve been hearing about them for so long I wasn’t sure if the quality was still the same. Nice to see they seemed to have maintained their popularity. Thanks for the ideas!

I love my tropical riders for summer. Super thin…but not see through.

Pikeur and Cavallo high rise breeches for me 100%. Some of the Pikeur models have two actual pockets! TWO!

Have you tried the Piper tights? I wear the fullseat ones all the time and they are incredibly comfortable. Like Yoga pants. The seam (at least on me) falls in more of a forward position vs. right on the crotch, so perhaps they could be comfy for you? $49 full price, and SP is always running sales.

I have always preferred FITS for the segmented seat – no diaper bottom. But with the new grip bottoms I thought I would give Pikeur a try – haven’t worn them yet, but totally comfortable in the fitting room! Fingers crossed, I purchased a light blue and DE swore they washed well an would last forever – no matter how dirty I got!

I’m also a big Pikeur fan and it’s really all I own and ride in. I have a pair of Horze breeches too, and maybe I’d give those a try again too.

I wore knee patch breeches for a vast majority of my life riding jumpers and hated full seats, but I think I was just trying the wrong ones at the time because now I have no issue and they are not stiff, bulky, or saggy at all.

Pikeur recently came out with some more tights style breeches that may be a nice option for summer.

Pikeur has a great pair of summer breeches. I get them at Amira Equi because the price is better.

I ride in the Irideon Cadence full seats year round. I love them!! This year I picked up a few extra pairs of tights too - the Smartpak Piper silicone grip full seat tights, because they have the sticky seat and treat/phone pocket. I thought they’d be great for hack days. They’re thin, but super comfortable.

Hands down best summer tights. Cooling, seamless crotch, super lightweight, inexpensive. Love them.

They show every freckle, be warned :).
