Best Tall Boots in the $600-$700 Price Range

I am tasked with organizing the Christmas present for our pro for all the owners in the group, and we are thinking nice tall boots for showing would be perfect. We can pool our money to get a nice pair. What are the best tall boots in the $600-$700 price range? I would love to get semi-custom or custom ones if possible, so they are perfect for her. We maybe could stretch the budget a bit for those. I personally ride in $80 fake leather boots, so I am not experienced in this realm of nice things

Boots are very personal, what about a gift certificate she can use to buy her own? You won’t get custom in that price range with the big names (Vogel, Dehner, Der Dau), that would be more like $1,000 and up. There are lots of very nice boots in your price range, I just think its hard to pick them out for someone else.

I agree, BAC, and we will have her try a bunch on (hopefully at Rolex). I just need to be able to give her some direction on which ones to look at. With her schedule, going down to the tack shop get quickly pushed down the priority list. She is a size 9 and has calves that are on the larger end of “regular”. Likes taller boots/spanish tops but is not tall herself (5’6" ish).

Take this with a grain of salt as I have never worn them, but Deniro boots look lovely, and many are in the price range.

Bit more than you wanted but I have a pair of these (got them in a tent sale REALLY affordable…but now would buy them at full price). The normal ones are a tad short on me but I’m 5’9" with long legs. By your description…these would likely fit her. Now that I have them…I forgot how nice…nice boots are. Damn…broke in like butter and have held up nicely to my abuse. I had the higher end Treadsteps before these and now can not bear to put the Treadsteps back on.

I just bought a pair of TreadStone field boots. I LOVE them…they look like they were custom made for me and there was a one ride break in time…Nice spanish tops and swagger tabs too. I am not easy to fit either. I have a 20" tall leg with a 14.25" calf and a 9.5 foot…they come in dress boot style too
and they were only around 400 bucks…

I believe La Mundial, has amRolex Special same as they had at Dressage at Devon $650.'for custom tall dress boots…My newest pair arrived today fit perfectly look gorgeous and broke in almost instantly. I have had excellant luck, with measurement quality and service…Plus the company just went thru a restructure and is back under direct family control. Service from measure to my door 8 weeks.

You can get her into a pair of Dehners for $825, and you can’t kill those with a gun. They will last her forever.

You could also look at the Vogel Young Rider Boots, which are $800. They are allegedly made of “shoulder leather” instead of the premium cuts used for regular Vogels, but every time I meet someone with the Young Rider Boots, those suckers look like completely normal Vogels. And you don’t have to be a Young Rider to buy them. http://www.vogelboots.com/product_detail.asp?page_idno=10&category_idno=4&prod_idno=1226 (Edited to add: Sergio Grasso also has a set of Young Rider boots. I don’t know the current retail on those. http://www.sergiograsso.it/prodotti_categoria.php?page=prodotti&lang=en&id_categoria=11 )

JMHO but I like the Treadstone Field Boots for amateurs–in fact, I’ve even owned two pairs myself!–but since most of them are calfskin or a thinner grain leather, I would not recommend them for a pro.

Also, not to sound totally nosy, but if your signature line is tipping us all off to the professional rider in question ;), one of her sponsors sells DeNiro boots at $675. See if the sponsor can get her an even better deal on a pair of DeNiros?

This GREAT information everyone, keep it coming! I was already eyeing the Sergio Grasso’s so good to know they last. Never heard of Treadstone, but thanks for the tip that they may be too thin.

Not nosy at all! And duh - why didn’t I think of that?! Genius. I forget that people who are actually good at riding can get things given to them or at discount prices

I love my Casa de las Botas customs. Price to get them here would be right in your range, but you would need someone qualified to measure for you and then would be helpful if you/know someone who can speak Spanish since they are located in Argentina.

Also you can currently get Monacos for that on Smartpak in many sizes.

…who said that? Dehners last forever. Vogels last a long time. I’ve heard mixed reports on Sergios, probably because Sergio Grasso builds a lot of boot models out of calfskin. But I think they have some grain-leather boots in their lineup.

Good luck and happy shopping!

Consider yourself one of the luck ones…and there are not many that I know of with that crappy La Mundial company.

I have the DeNiro Ottaviano Aurora Field Boots and they are probably one of my mot prized possessions. They are beyond lovely, and are pretty customizable. I love love love mine. People ask me all the time what they are, thinking they are more expensive, fully custom boots.

Ive had Dehners and now have SGs. Leather is beautiful. And yeah it is calf but that is why they break in so easily and are so comfortable. The Pros I know with them, they are lasting just fine. It is all what you want and how you take care of them.

I chose the Deniro’s over Sergio Grasso, after I’d wanted a pair of Sergio’s for years. They are lovely boots. They fit just like the customs on my foot. They had the semi-custom option, as well as a modern high top and cute italian logo on the top.
I rave about them all the time. The soles are the same as you see on Chaco’s. (The name is away from me currently)

I expect my next pair of boots to be from Kroop (Laurel, Maryland, kroopboots.com), which might be just in your price range even for full-on custom. (If they blow the fit I can go be sad at them without getting on an airplane!) Might depend which side of the zippers-vs-not divide one is on, though.

That said, if your sponsor sells nice boots it does seem like a good place to start!
