Best Trainers for young horse foundations in North Texas

A friend is searching for her next partner and she has a list that I will post below. I wanted to just see if any trainers in the North Texas area had multiple horses they offered or if anyone recommends a good place in North Texas that puts a good foundation on youngsters? I come from H/J Eventing land so this is a whole different ball game for her and is mostly looking for a happy trail packer that is no larger than 15.2 and would prefer a gelding. But She is a capable rider just doesn’t want to put the base foundation on a young horse. So COTH what say you about this area. We are close to Aubrey so something close by there would be ideal.

It’s been a real PITA to find a solid young horse trainer in North Texas that I trust to legitimately do a good job. Roger Daly is the big time “best” in the area, but this time of year he’s usually starting thoroughbreds and fitting them for the sales I believe - not exactly what your friend needs.

I ended up sending two fillies to Sydney Alery this year. She’s actually IN Aubrey, training out of KB Ranch. Her specialty is the AQHA ranch horse stuff and she has a few solid citizens in the barn but I’m not sure which are actively for sale. Your friend’s list could fit a large number of horses, which is definitely a good thing. :lol: Usually, you get people who want a unicorn for $50. Facebook used to be the best place to find them, but since they cracked down and closed the groups, I’ve found that ISO posts might be the best way to start your search.

She’s more in Central Texas (Grapeland), but I can strongly recommend Freeze Brand Ranch/Stacy Gutheinz if your friend has any interest in investigating Mustangs as an option. She is concentrating on bringing along her EMM horses (they start with two, then pick the one they want to compete with) right now, but the competition one will be available at the auction in January and she will “TIP” the other. After the competitions she will presumably go back to TIP horses and doing more complete starting of client-owned mustangs. I can’t say enough about what a great foundation, on the ground and under saddle, she gave to my boy. If your friend is interested in the Mustang route, there will be a lot of other horses available in Fort Worth in January with great starts on them.

For colt starting, I have a really good one to recommend. Carly Ramsey is in Honey Grove, Tx, about an hour + East of Aubrey or Whitesboro . She grew up in a SoCal hunter training/lesson barn, shows hunters, Grand Prix Jumpers, and gets on saddle broncs at rodeos for fun, and wins. (See her Facebook page) . The 3 year old filly I bought had 50 days total by Carly and when I tried her, I rode her around in a strange covered arena with no problem. She is a hard worker, very honest, and reasonable.

Wendye Gardiner from Solstice Stables always has a plethora of horses. While she specializes in arabs, she also has other breeds available sometimes. Great minded, well rounded horses.

the wyo horse sale is coming up on oct 12. Its the Bartlett Ranch and they have lots of 2 yr olds that are green broke and some 5 & 6 yr olds. There were two that caught my eye, both geldings and 15.2. One was a chestnut with 4 socks. All of the ‘older’ than 2 are well broke and quiet and been there done that in the feed lots etc. plus good gaits in the ring. I think they have an on line catalog.
