looking for recommendations and experiences with tieback surgery for a roarer. I understand that he will need to be scoped and that will be done. Looking for the absolute best surgeon to perform the procedure with experience with roarers. The horse is located in Ohio but will travel to give him the best chance at a successful procedure.
What part of Ohio? If it’s southern Ohio (Belterra area), it would make the most sense to go to Rood & Riddle or Hagyard in Lexington. They are among the best period.
It’s a pretty straight forward procedure. If you don’t go to Lexington, my other advice would be to seek out a hospital (university or otherwise) that services a lot of race horses. Those places will be able to do it in their sleep.
I would send mine to Rood and Riddle and nowhere else for tie back surgery.
He’s in the Columbus area. But as I said, I have no problem hauling for the absolute best. Hell, I live in the west and will fly or drive out to get him where he needs to go, and stay with him for a few days or week or so afterwards. So distance is not a problem. I figured Rood and Riddle and Hagyard would be at the top of the list. Also wondered about New Bolton. Thank you for the suggestions so far.
New Bolton is great (former employee), but from Columbus, the Lexington hospitals make more sense.
Dr Schumacher at UT in Knoxville is a genius
