BEST waterproof lightweight blankets?

I am planning on replacing some older Rambos this Summer. They have been terrific- even re-proofing them, but they are done. So, my question is what is ut there that I might get a sale on during the “off-season” that is worth the money.

I do not need any insulation- I layer other blankets when it is really cold, and I have plenty of those.

Needs to be durable.

Needs to stay waterproofed as long as possible.

Like the high-necked ones.

Don’t like leg-straps, but I can change those out.

Thanks very much!

I gotta say - stick with Rambos. I like the Rambo Supreme light with the detachable neck. My sister ran a blanket cleaning & repair business and Rambos were one of the best for durability. Also, no leg straps and they don’t shift around. Pricey, but they pay off in the long-run. I found a great deal on mine on eBay.

I have a couple orignal style Rambo blankets that are 20 years old and still in good shape.

Rambos. I’ve also been happy with several of my Amigo 1200/Bravos.

I love my Rambos, which are all around 20 years old, but the last time I washed them, the membranes started coming off. I think that they are done. I’ve also got some older Rhinos that I love.

Anyone know where to find the best pricing on them?

Amigo Bravo 12, and Weatherbeeta. Both have gone the long haul for me.

Tack of the Day if you’re in the US has good deals on Rambo’s

The newer Rambos are pretty light weight. I bought a brand new Rambo supreme three years ago, and then another one last year - the newer one is probably a full six or seven pounds lighter than the old one.Same with my Rhinos - they’ve come a long way in the last few years.

I don’t do Amigos anymore, they never last more than a few weeks for my horses – but they are tough on their blankets and out 24/7.

Dover doesn’t always have the best pricing but they do regularly have sales – I’m pretty sure I saw they had a buy one get one free kind of sale with their Rambos recently. With Dover, if it breaks or you are unhappy you can return it.

Is there a sheet as hard-wearing as a Rambo that comes in a size 63? My pony and his herdmates have destroyed his Amigo sheet in one season and it would be cheaper to buy a Rambo that will last, but I don’t see them smaller than a 66. I love the way Horseware stuff fits and no legstraps.

I would stick with Rambos or Rhinos. I’ve tried different brands over the years but was always disappointed - they tore, lost their waterproofing, etc.
My mare’s Rhino is still in great shape after maybe 10 years.

Check out a dedicated store like Just for Ponies. I believe Rambo makes the Supreme line down to 60".

Just for ponies has the entire pony line of Rambos.

Just be aware the pony sizes run large. My pony wears a 60” in every other blanket but the Rambo swallows him whole. Looked like he was playing dress up. They don’t come smaller than 60”.

I wash and repair horse blankets, and Tough-1 and Country Pride both really stand out to me as really being able to take some serious abuse. I know they aren’t necessarily the most popular brand, just my experience. YMMV

Just bumping this up to see if anyone has seen any great sales on great, waterproof blankets?

Thanks!

Horseman’s Outlet NJ has some Rambos 50% off. There are a few left, but the selection is pretty small.

My go to for Horseware blankets is Adams Horse Supply. They always have a fantastic selection - many more choices than Smartpak or Dover, for example. They already had a big summer sale but I’d check it out anyway.

I love all of my Rambo and Rhino blankets. Took advantage of the Adams sale to buy an Amigo sheet with its own neck cover, with all of the usual Rambo cut and hardware. My first time trying Amigos. Am hoping we like it!
