Best waterproof winter gloves?

I’m sure this has been covered before, but I couldn’t find anything by searching. Feel free to link me to an appropriate thread!

I need some intense winter gloves, because my hands are ALWAYS cold, and at this barn, the arena is at the top of a hill. Great for draining the footing, but when it’s windy, it just comes ripping over the field and freezes me.

I would love riding gloves, but am totally find with ‘regular’ ones. I found these that I like, but they don’t come small enough for me. My palm circumference is 7.5". (http://www.amazon.com/Youngstown-Glove-03-3450-80-S-Waterproof-Performance/dp/B000E3CDQ2/)

Thanks in advance!

I like skiing gloves. The top of the line gloves are designed to be doing stuff out in the cold for long periods of time while being thin enough that you can still actually use your hands.

I always picked up the ones that in addition to being waterproof or water resistant were designed to wick water away from the hands if they did get wet. More than once I was able to get through the rest of the night after fumbling a bucket of water without freezing my hands off or having to go gloveless.

They aren’t cheap, but they are absolutely worth it.

Cool. I’ve been through enough pairs of gloves that I’m willing to make this kind of an investment. I am miserable when my hands get cold, so it’s worth it to me just to pay more for some really good ones.

I absolutely love these
I am not sure they are 100% waterproof but they are pretty water resistant and very very warm. No liners and at 10 degrees my hands were not cold. I can ride in them too with no problems

I really like the Heritage Extreme Winter gloves. I drove a carriage in them for years. I’ve had my first pair for 5 years and finally just replaced them this winter.

They’re not waterproof if you stick your hand in a bucket, but they’ll keep your hands dry in normal winter conditions.

The Kerrits are great if they fit

I’m really liking my SSG 10 Below gloves this winter. It’s generally been in the 20’s for my barn chores, and they’ve almost been too hot. Temps in the 30’s? I wear a lighter glove because they really make my hands sweat. They’ve been perfect for the couple of times we’ve had early morning temps in the teens with wind chills around zero.

YES YES YES YES these. I got mine from the UK in 2011 and they are still going strong and they are very warm and keep my hands dry. My only problem is that sometimes they are to warm for here and my hands sweat. I only wear mine for riding not barn work I have ski gloves for barn work.

Just wanted to throw this out there: I am from Montana, now in Maine. In Montana where it is dry and COLD, I wore WOOL lined Geier gloves, expensive but absolutely 100% worth it. USA made to-order, they are beautiful, last forever, don’t shrink when wet, and the wool keeps you so warm. Here in Maine however, it’s wet like nobody’s business. Last week we had an ice storm, and then yesterday it rained 7". WTH? So for all the outdoor stuff, I’m wearing my old pair of trusty neoprene Patagonia 100% waterproof gloves. They are for fishing, but they are tough and keep your hands dry no matter what. They are thin and the dexterity is good, and they fit my lady hands with no problem (I am a 7-7.5 in Geier measurements, wear a medium Patagonia glove). If you wear them for a lot of work, however, the neoprene doesn’t breathe well. However, cleaning water troughs in winter, or picking ice out of buckets, I love them!

(I might also add I have frostbite damage from a horrible blizzard while I was outfitting years ago in three fingers on my right hand, so I cannot tolerate any kind of exposure to cold.)

Which one in particular? I’d like something I can ride in but also pick out her stall, etc. They don’t really need to be waterPROOF, but that would be ideal. My current water resistant ones are failing me, but they’re several years old at this point.

I have an old pair of Patagonia gloves for barn work. They are made for mountaineering and waterproof, so perfect for cold, wet weather.

Thx for the link CDE Driver

These are the ones I have, http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B005WY1Z26/ref=oh_details_o03_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I can do chores and drive my horses with them one. LOVE them!

Cool thanks! They have multiple kinds on their site, so I wanted to be sure I knew which one you meant. The performance ones look snazzy, but I like the price on those you linked a lot better.

I suffer from arthritis in my hands and so have to keep my hands warm. I wear the SSG below 10 and silk liners. I’ve tried many gloves over the years but this seems to work the best. I might add that I live in Ontario so we have very cold winters and of course this winter is shaping up to be the coldest ever! I usually have two sets of gloves and leave one set in the heated tack room when I’m working around the barn and change them if my hands get cold.

I agree with Half Halt X. When I was working part time at my trainer’s barn, I purchased a pair of ski gloves from Lands End. They were so waterproof that I could reach my hands in the water tubs to pull chunks of ice out. They were a little too thick for riding, but were great for general barn/horse work. For riding I have purchased SSG winter gloves in the past or just worn my regular gloves with silk glove liners.

I just got these:

I was planning on getting the Heritage Extreme, but when I tried them on at Dover, I realized they would be way too thick for me to feel the reins and way too hot for me. To be clear, I am an hour from Chicago (was -45 with windchill here two days ago!) but I run quite warm. I get overheated easily when I am riding. I wore them today while riding (high of 4 degrees) and my hands were warm without sweating, and I could feel the reins easily. Highly recommend!

I have the Heritage ones. Must be the extremes…pretty waterproof up until about the 15th bucket. Pretty warm but a bit bulky

to me the cost is not a big thing if I am dry and warm. I have had them 3 yrs now (3 very wet winters) and I feel they have paid for themselves. I might have to try the cheaper ones that CDE posted to see how they hold up.
