I want a winter riding boot that is either waterproof or water resistant. I need a boot that fits in my stirrups. The next thing that is important to me is warmth. But the first two things are more important. Anyone have a favorite boot?
Tall boot or short boot? The Ariat Bromont tall boot would tick all your boxes, I think.
at least mid calf but taller is ok
I really like the Ariat H2O Extreme boots- https://www.smartpakequine.com/pt/ariat-extreme-tall-h20-insulated-boot-12584
Love my Bromonts.
I liked my TuffRider Tundra fleece lined
Depending on your budget, the best winter boots I’ve ever gotten were any of the ariats that had gore-tex in them. They were so comfy, nice to walk and ride in, and warm and completely truly waterproof, that I was kinda bummed when it got too warm to ride in them.
These are super nice. But the price! Wow. I want to justify them with the story that i will ride much more in the winter if i have warm feet, but i just don’t know if i will…
Here is a slightly better price on the Ariat Extreme Tall H20. They look nice! Just looking to enable you!
these threads are good a reminder to me of just why I moved south, those winters of 70 inches of snow are still ever present in my memory
I know…you should’ve gotten end of season. They were about $165
Any of the Ariat winter boots are great–comfy to walk/stand in, warm, waterproof, and made for riding. They are pricey but I have a pair of Bromont field boots I picked up on sale at Dover a few years back, plus a pair of their insulated paddock boots that are over 10 years old, and these things wear super well. I’ve never regretted investing in them–cold feet are the worst, and just one season of not feeling miserable anytime I’m in the barn made the cost feel like an afterthought.
I love my ariat winter boots. Mine are the short paddock boots, I’m pretty hard to fit calf wise so those were a better pick. They keep my feet toasty and fit fine in a stirrup. A tad bulkier than my normal paddock boots but not enough to cause any problems.
I have the boots that are an earlier version of the Ariat Extremes. I’ve had them for 4-5 years, and they were well worth the money.
No, no, no, no, no. That is all I have to say on that. Like Scarlett OHara - Ill go mad if I think about it today.
not helpful
I resisted the Bromonts for years because of the same reason… but I finally got them (on sale) with that justification. And it actually was true. I am toasty going to the barn now–warm feet made a huge difference for me. And they’ve held up great–I think I’ve had them three years now and they look about the same as they did when I got them. I’m not always a huge proponent of Ariat products, especially with zippers, but I love mine to death.
have you looked at the Dublin river, or the Ariat version of those?
I wear them all winter when we are knee deep in mud (like right now) and I ride in them too. Mine are 3 years old now and I can still stand in mid calf deep ponds and not get wet.
I dont know what your winters are like or what you need, but the likes of the ariat bromont wouldnt work for me as I have to walk through really wet areas and the water will come in the zips. The river ones are pull on ones. And then I wear them to the shops too, cos they look like average boots.
