Best Winter Boots?

What are everyone’s favorite winter tall boots? Or winter paddock/ short boots? Many moons ago i had the big puffy foam like ones from Libertyville tack. Can’t remember the brand, but I think it was a private label. As far I know they aren’t made anymore. But they were the warmest things ever. Curious what everyone likes. I’m not generally a fan of Ariats as they don’t fit me well. I saw the Dubarry insulated boots, are they really that warm? Would like some feed back on the Mountain Horse ones too. Thanks!

edited to add: does anyone have any experience with these?

Bogs McKennna! No longer making that style but they were great.

Really? No one has opinions on good winter boots?? I remembered the brand I used to love, it was Steeds. After an exhaustive internet search it doesn’t look like they are sold in the US 😭

I love anything from the Ariat line as long as it includes goretex! Their insulation is great, but goretex is the only water proofing material i’ve found that works (and doesn’t make your feet all sweaty, leading to them getting cold anyway.)

Mountain Horse. I have a pair of insulated paddock boots that are 10+ years old and are JUST showing signs of aging (some cracking.) They’re super warm, very durable, good traction, and waterproof.

I will say they’re awful to ride in, 0/10 do not recommend, but for working around the barn and such they’re A+.

I wear them all winter and switch into my tall boots right before I get on, then back to the insulated boots as soon as I untack.

Yep - I don’t know what they’re called, but I have the tall Ariat gortex boots that lace up the front (they zip in the back). Obviously not stand in a pond like dubarry waterproof, but they served me VERY well in last year’s winter in the great lakes snowbelt. I drudged through knee high snow and didn’t have wet or cold feet. They’re also riding boots!

I’ve had my Mountain Horse Rimfrost I boots for at least 5 years now (around $120) and LOOOOOOVE them. Great support, surprisingly flexible and easy to break in, you can work/walk around in them, and they’re warm enough that you only need to pair with thick, winter socks on the coldest of days (single digits and under).

I just had the zippers replaced last year, but boots are good to go.

I made the mistake of buying the Ovation Blizzard boots last year to hold me over while my MH were repaired and while they’re warm, they’re very poorly made. There’s no support through the ankles and they want to slide off when walking around. I was honestly concerned one would fly off if I got bucked off a horse at work, but thankfully that theory was never tested

@aknightstale do your MH run pretty true to size? I tend to go up 1/2 size for winter so I can wear super thick socks if needed.

I think they do, I usually wear wear 7.5 but sized up to 8 to leave room for thicker socks. If you buy through SmartPak, they have a fantastic return/exchange policy if you get the wrong size.

I have a pair of tall Muck boots and a short pair of Bogs. I like them both equally well.
