best winter dog blankets where the hay and shavings don't stick to

I have medium size dogs with very short hair. they need warm winter blankets. I don’t want ones with a sweater fabric, or fleece inside since hay and shavings and DIRT will stick to that fabric easily. I want one belly band not two, and adjustable front. For male dogs.

What can anyone recommend some. Thank you.

I’d go with something designed for a hunting dog:

The Smartpak th insulate one is pretty good and you can find it on sale fairly often.

Weatherbeeta. Both of my dogs wear those and only those. They make waterproof, nylon lined, medium weight blankets (along with plenty of other options). I will not get fleece lined as it shocks whe taking them off. I probably have at least ten-twelve of the blankets from over the years. They last forever and are warm. Adams has some on sale now.

I love the ones from SmartPak and Weathabeeta I have for my dogs. I can stick them in the washer if needed. Easy peasy.

Horseware Rambo makes a great dog blanket. Waterproof, warm, no stick. Mine was $35 from Bit o Britain and is worn daily by a very active PitBull pup.

Not sure what size you need but check the WB Joules on Ebay, the price is fair.

I was also going to recommend the Weatherbeeta blankets. I look for dog blankets that look like horse turnouts. Added bonus: your dogs and horses can match!

Weather Beta, regular or the Joules Weather Beta, Rambo, or Dover Riders International. I have all of them for my dog, (she’s very spoiled!), my favorite so far is the Dover Riders Int, it is new and the velcro is really good. It is only 100g of insulation, but then if I want more warmth, I will layer one of the Weather Betas on top… The Rambo velcro died after like 2 winters…

I ordered the Dover Riders Int one online, and it says to measure from the base of the neck to the base of tail. So I did that, and Bailey measured 16". So I ordered a small, which measures 16.5". I got it, and it measured 19" across the top…which is what they call a medium. I went to my local dover, and was able to try on another small, same problem. We tried on an XS and it is a tiny bit small, but its fine. So moral of that story, the dover sizing is weird! Try it on if possible!

I like the older Rambo or Amigo dog waterproof blankets - slick lining, not too much fill. They’ve recently redesigned them, but the older ones are still pretty easy to locate (as someone upthread mentioned, Bit of Britain carries them).

SmartPakEquine thibsulate works! I also have a foggy mountain one that’s about 10 years old and has held up through the barn, deer poop rolls, other nasty crap, shavings, etc. it all seems to wash out without sticking to the fleece lining.

Big D’s Saddlery sells “Baker” look-a-like plaid dog blankets that I use on all my dogs. Great fit, double Velcro fasteners and have held up for YEARS on hard playing dogs…15 to 140 pounders. The hard finish turns water and NEVER collects trash and are usually available under $10/each.

In Canada GREENHAWK has beautiful ones and a good selection.
Our Girls have a wardrobe and they wear and wash very well

I’ve tried most everything and keep coming back to Hurtta and Rambo/Amigo.

I have several by Tough 1 that are nice if you have a bigger bodied dog (like a lab) but are too big in the neck and belly band too long for my heelers. The best I have found for my dog is an Amigo by Horseware - fits perfectly, attractive, and had reflective stripes.

I love the Chilly Dog ones: http://www.chillydogs.ca/

They do have some fleece around the neck but keep the pups toasty warm.

I was going to suggest the Greenhawk dog coats too.
They have online ordering, and don’t forget your USD goes a lot farther in Canada!

I have this one, very well made and durable: http://greenhawk.com/wdItemDesc.asp?strilhID=web&strmdNumber=BLS1590&stricSKU=BLS1590

I’ve got one that is pretty good, fuschia/black 2" plaid, and looks pretty girly on our Boxer. It has plenty of reflective trim on it which I like for these short days.

But she’s a single coated dog and has a very bare belly - I feel she needs more underneath her instead of a belly band…perhaps in between the front legs and up through the chest.

I just got the Orvis dog parka, linked in post above, for my Aussie. It is great. Today it’s -2 degrees outside, and she was perfectly comfy in it. (Yes, she told me so!). I like that it doesn’t collect shavings/hay/whatever as she jet-zooms around the barn.
