betathane for REINS

i ahve a betathane bridle and i love it. i was curious if the reins are slippery or if they have a good grip to them. Anyone use Betathane reins?

I bought a few pairs from Amanda Taylor at Taylored Tack this past year and I absolutely love them!

I am an admitted rein snob- my leather reins are all extremely well made, western reins with slobber strap ends, with great “feel”, BUT, living in TN, everything molds constantly. I ordered the 8’ long, 3/4" wide reins, and have been very happily surprised how much I like them. I do not feel like I compromised on either “feel” or quality. Clean up is so easy- I can wipe them clean with a damp sponge and they are like new, and best of all NO MOLD! I feel like they are not slippery and I can get a good grip on them with no issues. I do have a horse who sweats excessively, and my reins do get wet when they lie against his neck, but I have not noticed any slickness at all.

Amanda was great to order from- she answered all my dumb questions and sent me samples of the material. I also ordered a breast collar and headstall from her that are just as great as the reins.

I have a set of Beta reins that are now more than 20 years old. I have had people --who were holding them in their hand at the time— argue that they were leather. I couldn’t be more pleased with how they have held up, and without a single minute of “maintenance”.

I have Beta Biothane reins too. They have held up very well for 15 years… except the black rubber nub grip. They disintegrated after a few years. I recently got a biothane rein that features nubs in the biothane. Purchased at Jeffers vet supply. They’re very flexible, easy to grip, and I like them a lot.

thanks everyone. i will pay the money and give them a try. sounds like a worthy purchase.

endurance companies are great places to buy them from - www.runningbear.com www.sportack.com
www.parrytack.com to name a few

I recently bought a pair from the distance depot. My big guy needs 10’ reins and I couldn’t find any reasonable priced leather ones that fit my needs. Very happy w/ the beta so far! It honestly feels very similar to leather.
