My picky pony was getting Pala-Tech Equine Thyroid meds, but my vet stopped carrying it. I was able to get it from Pala-Tech, but now they tell me it’s no longer available. Does anyone know of anything that tastes better than Thyrol-L (not sure of the spelling, but that’s what my vet sells, and pony won’t eat it unless it’s in applesauce in the feed.) Thanks!
These guys look to still have some of the Pala-Tech in stock:

You might try talking to Wedgewood or another compounding pharmacy about whipping up a special preparation for your picky pony. They could add flavorings to make it more palatable
Thank you! I have the Rx from my vet, so I’ll give them a call.
Just to remind you, Levothyroxine (i.e., Thyro-L and others) is one of the rare generics that can actually change in effect when you switch from one brand to another. That’s true for human levothyroxine, too. So when you’re switching from one brand to another, be mindful of potential differences in behavior of your horse, including hotness, spookiness.
What? No longer available? One of the warmbloods has been on the hypo thyroid meds for 2 yrs. Must go order as much as possible.
I’ll generously donate my personal RX if he doesn’t mind swallowing a tiny little tasteless pill :winkgrin:
but honestly, I’ve accidentally left the pill on my tongue too long, and also got it stuck somewhere between my tongue and tonsils (it’s a reaaaaallly small pill for humans) and I never tasted a foul taste. Wonder why the horse version tastes icky to your pony?
I have one that will only eat the pala tech version. I think it’s 50% sugar!
Bummer. I checked the link Simkie provided, and they don’t ship to Tennessee. Will keep looking.
I want going to recommend Pala Tech…I get it through my vet
