I would think so! That sounds like a good plan for now.
Three days a week is definitely a good light schedule for keeping a horse in mental and physical shape! You can sustain a lot that way. That’s what I did during the initial pandemic lockdown - had a pro make up rides I couldn’t (due to barn restrictions) so I could keep my mare in 3x/week work.
This is what I’m wondering. Before I had a horse (and kids) I would’ve jumped at the opportunity to hack a young horse with a good brain a few times a week. Depending on the area, OP may be able to set up a mutually beneficial relationship wtih an experienced amateur.
