Man charged as hay deal goes bad
BARRON - A 36-year-old Montana man has been charged with felony theft for reportedly failing to supply $18,975 worth of alfalfa to a Barron County man, according to Barron County Court records.
Madison W. Miner of Hilger, Mont., was charged Monday. No court date has been scheduled. The charge has a maximum penalty of five years in prison.
According to court records:
Dan Schullo of Valley View Dairy near Cumberland bought five 23-ton truckloads of dairy-grade alfalfa from Miner, owner of Montana Hay Co., on April 9 for $18,975.
Arrangements were made for drivers to pick up the hay in Wyoming, but the drivers were told by officials there that they did not know of Montana Hay Co. Schullo contacted Miner, who agreed to wire the money back, but the money was not returned.
