Big Announcement for Iron Horse Farm (minor update pg2)

Thank you Sally! We built this house, so we’re quite fond of it!

The Kentucky home has been mostly upgraded inside, but the outside needs some TLC…some stonework, woodwork and porch decking. My FIL built our current house and we’re bringing him down for a week to try to knock out some of the work in the new place.

Congratulations! Ya gotta learn to eat cheese grits now.

ToiRider, lol, those pics made me drag my hubby to the front gates and cry until he called the realtor (if only I were kidding!). Actually, we are not getting it all. The bank split the property into 3 parcels and we are buying the one with the house, garage and thirteen stall barn on 10 pastured acres. We found out on our last trip down that the bigger parcel with the other barn was also sold and the the owner is a “German lady”. Crossing my fingers for warmblood neighbors! If I’m not going to grow my own hay, I guess I don’t need the giant chunk of land anymore.[/QUOTE]

I am glad the crying worked for you!! That property is lovely! I think that 10 acres with a gorgeous house and barn is a fantastic small farm. That area of Kentucky is so lovely, and there are so many horse related things to do. You truly are in horse heaven!

Congratulations!! And-- no more northern winters.
Best of luck with the move -
Nancy

Hate to be the bearer of bad news, but Paris KY is not going to be that much different than the part of Michigan that Holly was from, believe it or not. I’m in Cincinnati which has comparable weather to northern KY and we can get some pretty bad winter weather here too. I am originally from Chicago, IL and I really haven’t seen all that much of a change in the winters between the 2 states, sadly.

Temps below zero, TONS of snow, but I think the winter season is a bit shorter overall.

Best of luck to you at any rate, IHF!!! Sounds like a nice place!

Well I have found specifics about the Derby horse that was born and raced for Turney Bros Racing, who built our home in Paris, Ky. It seems that they had a stallion named Dr Catlett who raced in the 1897 Kentucky Derby and came in third, earning a purse of $300. Also, it seems that Dr Catlett was used to pull the family buggy in the off season. Had to laugh at that, can you imagine that today?? Anyway, can’t help but wonder if Contessa is sharing the stall of royalty, she is in the big stall in the original part of the barn, so you never know!

No snow here yet WBLover (crossing fingers now) and we are a full 20 degrees warmer than my previous MI residence (which has had 4 minor snow falls so far this winter). Hope that this holds!
