just wondering if anyone has had any of Big Brown’s progeny as jumping prospects? He is 3X4 to Damascus and one popped up on the Makors Mark Secretariat Center resale site that freejumps really well.
I think I know which advertised horse you’re talking about-- he’s caught my eye a few times. If it is him, I really love his dam as a sport prospect. Royal Academy left quite a bit of international influence in his career, siring, among other successes, steeplechasers on multiple continents. Her Brazilian dam sire, while I normally don’t go gaga about stuff far back in a pedigree, is from the line of Sicambre, who was the grand sire of the Holsteiner Sandro. I don’t think the Sandro line needs much introduction.
I’ve only been up close and personal with one Big Brown son… didn’t love him. I knew him as a racehorse, so no clue about his jumping ability. But that wouldn’t influence my opinion about the individual at the Secretariat Center, who certainly has a pedigree stacked for jumping.
Yes, that’s the one, Alltheleavesrbrown. Thanks for your input. I’ve had two from the On the Sly/Roi Dagobert/Sicambre lineage that both jumped well. Someone on the east coast should give that gelding a try.
It seems like he’s been there awhile. I’d imagine the hitchiness in his hind end seen under saddle and at liberty scares some folks off. He certainly jumps like he can do the big stuff.
If this is the horse: https://www.pedigreequery.com/alltheleavesrbrown
Texarkana is right, that is a very good pedigree for jumping. The damside is lovely for both sport and racing. Royal Academy is one of my favorite Nijinsky sons for sport movement and jump. Itajara is not a very well known name state-side, but is a giant in Southern America and is known for siring sound, successful horses (and many graded stakes winners): he had several incredible graded stakes horses, and sired Siphon – a household name in Brazil and Argentina, and also a known jump source. Prima Gioia is a full sibling to Siphon, and is this horse’s grand-dam. As Texarkana mentioned, Sicambre is a very well established line - for both jumping and sport movement. Sicambre sired Roi Dagobert, one of the best known lines for jumping talent in TBs today.
An aside, just about BB progeny. I haven’t worked with any on the track so have no input on their temperaments, but have handled and seen several post-track, including listing a couple. I have been impressed with each BB horse I’ve seen or listed in terms of sport type and potential. It seems BB consistently puts a very nice trot on his horses, and a naturally balanced canter (which is not always the case for TBs…)… they almost always seem to be bay (no surprise there). BB definitely is a name that eventers like. His offspring have been nice enough that he is a name I keep an eye out for. I looked up ‘Alltheleavesrbrown’s’ video and, he moves very much like what I have seen other BB horses move like at the trot and canter (hitch aside). He looks uncomplicated and has a kind eye.
He had over 40 starts. That’s not something that unsound horses can do… so it may be worth inquiring about the hitch in his get-along. It does look stifley to me, but it may be an old track injury. You won’t know unless you get a PPE.
Thanks, great input from you both:)
