Big Eq Plus, is it worth signing up? Why do you have to pay extra to see sale ads?

Title says it all I think…

What does it claim to give you access to? I would assume that any “plus” would be for sellers to be able to add more information to their ads. I can’t imagine it being a plus to a shopper, and I’d be annoyed if, as a seller, there were shoppers who couldn’t see my ad.

From what I can gather:

There are ‘regular’ Bigeq ads, and Bigeq showcase ads. ‘Regular’ costs ~79$ to list for 6 months and showcase costs ~109$ to list for 6 months. The new Bigeq+ membership costs ~4$/month, BUT you get to post unlimited ads, but only if you’re paying for at least 2 showcase ads as well. (So really it’s ~242$ per 6 months to list unlimited ads).

Then any buyers must pay ~4$/month to look at said ‘unlimited’ ads.

I think they’re trying to incentivize trainers to post their entire sale barns on the website, instead of posting 1 showcase ad with text that reads ‘check out my website for more horses’. And of course trying to get money from the buyers as well, since if they’re dropping 6 figures on a horse they probably won’t blink at an extra 4$/month…

I found that if I do an advanced search, nothing loads for me; i have to do a much broader search, which is a pain in the butt! The only thing that pops up with the advanced search is a message to join bigeq+.There are a LOT of ads on that site. I personally do not want to pay to search horses. And, fwiw, I have sold hundreds of horses in my life, but had 0 luck selling through that particular site.
Not a fan

This is wild to me. I’m not paying to see ads. Especially when sellers already pay to post them!

Not paying to see ads! Too bad, I used to like BigEq. The Facebook pages, noteably the HJEU’s page are great and more “live” anyway.

I’ve heard that Petfinder does something like this, where you can pay extra to see pets in the first X days of their listings and get special alerts when a dog that fits your search criteria appears so you can see it before the general public. This seems similar, where they charge you extra to see certain “exclusive” horses. If I were in the market, I don’t think I’d be up for spending more money just to see listings. Seems like it’s a money grab from both ends of the stick.

Capitalizing on a perceived shortage of pets, I assume.

I hadn’t used BigEq in ages and was very disappointed recently when I did a “Showcase” ad for a cute, very reasonably priced young horse and got virtually nil by way of inquiries, except an 11-year-old who showed up for a trial sans trainer. :anguished:
