Big Jump in Grain Price

Anyone else notice a pretty significant jump in grain prices? Maybe it is just tractor supply but both rice bran and purina strategy have gone up $3+ a bag.

Yes!

Chicken feed went from 18 a bag to 23! :open_mouth:

Fuel prices have gone up quite a bit recently… I am sure that has something to do with it.

Weather and Covid. It’s not going to get better quickly.

The biggest petrochemical plant in the world is in Texas, and it shut down and may be down for another couple months because of that wicked cold snap. Significant, as in they supply the world with plastics for things from cars to building supplies to phones to medical devices and no doubt, feed bags.

And yes, fuel has been going up fairly steadily since early-mid January

Who is the biggest petrochemical plant in the world? Motiva?

Hope you are not planning on new shingles either. Same issue, shingles, adhesives, all petroleum products, prices jumping, items not even available with unknown production schedules. We just got a new roof on last week. Made it in time to get old pricing and quantities we needed! Roof guy was here last Friday to inspect the work and said shingle prices had gone up twice in 2 weeks, along with related item costs.

Yikes! We are having to replace our HVAC asap, hopefully our quote doesn’t change :weary:

Covid has nothing to do with it here in the US as far as I know.

We have been selling our reserves to China. So you have supply and demand which raises grain prices. Fuel prices have risen dramatically and so have fertilizer , seed and other things needed to plant and harvest crops. Not to mention the added costs of production of feed, packaging & delivery.

Everything is going up and will continue to do so.

I had an email from my feed store about a month ago letting us know due to supply/demand all prices were going up about 3 dollars a bag.

I work in the feed industry. Ingredient prices and availability have been nuts for the last year. COVID-related supply chain disruptions, weather, and increased buying/demand from Asian markets have all played a role. I wish I had good news for you, but we don’t anticipate much relief any time soon.

Outlast jumped from $37 to $45 at my TSC. That one was hard to stomach.

I just paid $48 for a bag of Purina Outlast at TSC so you got me beat. I had stocked up before with a 10% off coupon but was out of luck this time.
