Anyone ever see his conformation shot? He isn’t the greatest stallion to watch go around a course & I was wondering what his confo looked like.
What is it you don’t like about Big Star? He and Casall were the highlight of London 2012 for me.
Personally I think his head and neck look gangly verses his thick body. I’d be interested to see his confo to critique.

Big Star is a coursely built stallion, however I don’t think it matters how he is built because from what I believe he is not even available to us for breeding. Certainly his conformation works for him.
I haven’t ever seen a confo shot, but pretty is as pretty does, as they say, and he does pretty well with whatever he has got
KWPN lists him as available for very limited breeding. I’m not completely sure what that means…perhaps that means fresh cooled only?
Ditto the others. I haven’t seen a confo shot where he wasn’t wearing a winner’s cooler – and it is clear his head and neck are on the coarse side. I wouldn’t use him to try to get a hunter (too much knee at the canter for that too). But gosh, his jump is just phenomenal and I like his canter for a jumper.
I’ve had several wonderful jumpers with coarse to downright ugly heads. You don’t ride the head.
True you don’t ride the head, lol (sounds funny), but there are plenty of stallions who have jumped the moon and have nice heads and produce the same.
FWIW, the announcement the other day that Nick and Big Star were left off the British team for an upcoming event, with the explanation the the horse was going to get a year off to stay fresh for Rio, may mean that breeding is more available in the near future.

“Nice head” is in the eye of the beholder. Some people like an uber-refined, Arabian type head. Others think that looks stupid. Some people think a really coarse head or Roman nose looks noble. Others think that’s ugly.
That horse’s head could literally look like a bucket and I’d still hold a stall open for him
Again beauty vs performance…
Each breeder have to decide for himself and if you’re looking for performance, then forget about the head.
If you look at the best producing stallions in the world, you will hardly find a beauty king.

Excuse me? Not the greatest stallion to watch go around a course? I won’t comment on him as a breeding stallion but I must say for me he is the most exciting horse to watch jump since Hickstead.
I adore Big Star. He was one of my faves at the Olympics.
