I was always taught that billets need to point straight down, and if the angled one direction or the other they were ultimately going to slide the saddle forward or backward to align with the girth.
I have recently started a saddle search. I’m seeing a lot of jumping saddles with the billets angled forward, such as this saddle:
The CWD I’m currently trialing also has the billets angled forward slightly. I find this odd.
Is there a legitimate reason for this that anyone is aware of? Do you need a special girth with this?
I feel like this would just continuously try to pull the saddle forward, increasing the pressure towards the pommel constantly.
