I just came across the Taylored Tack website and their stuff is beautiful! My concern is that I live in an area where the temps get up to 110-115 degrees in the summer. Has anyone used biothane tack in extremely high temps and if so, did it make the horse sweat more or rub and lose hair? I’d love to get one of these things, but not if it’s going to make holes in my horse in the heat. :lol:
It isn’t that hot here, but easily 100 degrees many summer days. No issues with the biothane tack, my horse is his usual sweaty self at those temps! I do have to make sure to wash the sweat from his face really well, but I have to do that with any tack. I see photos from the Saudi Arabian desert rides, they seem to have biothane, so you’d be OK!
It gets that hot here and I haven’t had any issues with biothane or beta biothane vs leather.
Phoenix AZ—I don’t ride when it’s 115 here, but even when we get out early
(4:30 am) we’ll still get stuck in 105+ occasionally. Never had any problems at all. I do wash it pretty frequently. All I have is biothane.
Have ten year old biothane tack. That’s ten years of use. Only issue is some fly sprays make it tacky or slick. Be careful of solvents and oil based horse products.
I have several Taylored Tack bridles and breast plates. We can get withering heat and humidity here in Virginia. I actually perfer my TT equipment when it gets miserably hot/humid - the sweat doesn’t soak into the tack like it would with leather, and the horses appear to sweat better underneath - as in ‘it doesn’t trap the heat’ like leather appears to do since the synthetic tends to stand up and off the skin on its own. Leather, being floppy soft and porous, sits right on the skin and doesn’t allow for much - if any - air circulation underneath the tack.
And yes, the TT equipment is gorgeous, wonderfully pliable and lovely to the touch, and the material quality top rate. Mine looks just as stunning clean, bright, and beautiful today as it did a thousand miles, and hundreds of rounds in the washer, these many years back when I purchased it new. You can have it made to order, mixing and matching colors.

I liked the Endurance/Trail tack I purchased so much that I had her make a traditional Hunt bridle and breastplate in Beta for schooling…it’s lovely, and when my horse destroyed the crown piece, it was very easy to order a replacement, which arrived quickly.
I have Biothane tack from a few different places, and Taylored Tack is by far the highest quality. My stuff has to put up with temperatures from -50C to +40C and it has suffered no ill-effects…and I clean it in the dishwasher, which gets extremely hot.
Southern NM - very hot here, store my biothane tack in my uninsulated shed year round. No problems. Taylored Tack stuff is very nice:)
Mine seems to hold up fine in the heat. I live in Indiana. My horse seems to prefer it to leather bridles in the summer.
I live in southeast Texas on the coast. It is very hot and VERY HUMID here. I have had my TT biothane for a little more than a year - many miles on it. and I just love it. I rinse it off and go!!
Love Taylored Tack! I can’t speak to the heat, but my sensitive - look at something and rub - Arab has no issues with getting rubs from his bridle.

I & all my NATRC / AERC friends use Zilco biothane tack. I lasts forever & is easy to clean. Hope this helps,
Omg-never looked at this website, gorgeous stuff. How do the brow bands with the little dangling beads hold up to training rides? Am I better to go with the horsehair?
I have the dangling beads (Navaho), and they hold up fine. I’ve thrown the bridle in my washing machine, and dunked it in plenty of buckets to clean it. It’s pretty tough tack!
I’ll just add… When I bought a new bridle last year I decided to suck it up and buy a good one. I bought a Taylored Tack on the advice of folks here. It looks great on the website but it looks ten times better when you actually get it!!! I was worried that it would feel funny, not being leather, but I think I like the way it feels BETTER, and not having to worry about conditioning or mold eating it away is just icing on the cake. I can’t comment on the heat, sorry (no, not sorry…) but you won’t be disappointed in the tack.
It’s heavily used down here in AL where we are 23 miles from the core of the sun.
No one babies it, it just lasts and lasts.
Any issues with extreme cold?
It can be a little stiff in the cold when you first take it out, but warms up fast from body heat. It’s never been too stiff to use, and I’ve never had rubs in cold weather.
