Bird flu and pets

Some guidance here after cases of cats catching bird flu after drinking unpasteurized milk on dairy farms. Cats have a high mortality rate. Dogs that hunt waterfowl may also be susceptible, but they don’t seem to catch it nearly as often. One recommendation is to not feed raw meat to pets. I know this might not sit well with raw food enthusiasts, but it might be good to think about adjusting your pet’s diet because of bird flu. It’s unknown if it can jump to people from pets. Too early to tell.

For those of us with barn cats, we need to keep them away from waterfowl, dead birds (that weren’t murdered by the cat) and bird baths.
