Anyone know why the Bit of Britain tent is so crowded? Is there some great sale I’m missing?
It’s probably one of the biggest tack vendors on the grounds. Bob is close to the stands of the outdoor, they have a good selection of stuff, and they have good prices on some standard items like saddle pads. So, a blending of all these factors. I didn’t see that they had a lot of unique stuff, but it was so crowded when I went in to buy my saddle pads that I really didn’t get a chance to look around much!
Once an eventer
It was eventing weekend and BoB is the place to buy eventing stuff, that is what they do and they do it very well
It is the best placed tent on the grounds, every day there has had moments of true insanity. The key to shopping there is go when the crowds are in the arena watching something. Of course then you may be missing what you wanted to see! But yeah, it’s crazy. I think John is pretty happy!
They had a deal on saddle pads, most of the rest is at full retail.
I’m an eventer and very far from any tack shops, let alone one that carries such a full line of products meant for eventing. They had reps from multiple companies in there as well, so there’s people from Charles Owen fitting helmets and the BOB owner offered to fit me with a vest (I declined because I wasn’t prepared to buy right then). There’s enormous walls of selection of helmets and Ariats so you can try whatever you’re looking for on right there. There’s at least 8 lines of horse boots. Huge displays of all kinds of gear that I’ve not had a chance to touch for myself.
Even though it was super crowded, it was a very happy kind of crowded, with happy people finding stuff and generally cheerful. There are people from the national teams waiting in line with you.
Just don’t tell the fire marshall.
It is the only real retail tack shop on the entrire grounds too. the other “tack” vendors are the high end stuff. Not the stuff for every day use. And yes, BOB is eventer focused and that is what has been going on for the past several days.
FWIW, I was underwhelmed by the shopping. Too much fluff and high end “stuff”.
That was Totally Insane!! I’ve never seen a tack shop so full you couldn’t even turn around! LOL
The $15 saddle pads got me in there. Twice.
One Peach and one Purple. :uhoh:
They also ROCK on customer service. We needed a haynet (two actually) and they didn’t have them, but did have them at the competitors’ trailer/tent, so they called over and sent me over, and then had to walk out to meet me at the gate to do the deal.
They had $ 15 saddle pads & Rebecca Raubacher ( the artist behind Animals To Wear ) signing her products. I did, however wait in that loooong line just to have the cashier go take her break as soon as I stepped up to the register. That was irritating!
Animals to Wear, Lilo (cute stuff), usual great BoB lineup. I spoke to some folks from other countries, who said for them the leather halters and some other things were very cheaply priced compared to what they could get back home.
As an eventer, let me just say John Nunn and Bit of Britain rock! And I totally hope that they made enough money at WEG for the insanity to have been worth it for them.
Hah! I got a helpful sales person at BoB
who shall remain nameless, but, all I needed was a lightweight polo shirt and I had exact change, so… she took my money, took off the tag and took it to the register for me while I bolted and I didn’t have to stand in the line which was about 40 people long when I was in there.
How did I miss the saddle pads???

John Nunn was good to me! I wanted a noseband that they only had attached to a $250 bridle. He sold me the noseband only - so now I have it for Regionals and didn’t have to buy it on line!
I was a happy camper! It was BUSY in there. Wanted to look at the $15 pads but was so glad to get out of the crowd I didn’t go back in.
SCORE on a french link gag! Not currently using mine but if/when I need to go back to it, I didn’t like my regular rubber one. I couldn’t even find one on shop4bits site.
There was a sale on Romph’s. I got 2 pair, $99 each.
They have some sore-no-more salve that I’m excited to use.
There was rep for a wound/thrush treatment. I bought some of that because my horse has an old wire scar that runs into the cleft of his frog and it gets thrush a lot and it’s always very soft tissue - no real horse hoof so I can’t use hoof thrush stuff. Hope this stuff works!
They needed to have their plethora of studs out too. I didn’t see my hex with a grass tips there and would have bought some. Those are our mainstays.
Shared a dressing room with a lady from MN. Of course I open my mouth and state that I have no real tack stores in my area. Duh! Then she states where’s she’s from. She had worse than me. I looked like a spoiled brat.
Bought 3 of those $15 stallion pads (great deal – they only sell them at special events, not online or in their catalog), a Rambo winter blanket, a halter, toy for my 4-year-old niece for Christmas, and a good deal also on pillow wraps. The staff was SO nice! Of course, that doesn’t begin to cover the cool rain coat and vest from Little Foxes, a three-horse sculpture from the festival in downtown Lexington…and…and…my VISA card nearly melted!
