Bit options for OTTB with tied tongue

I have a coming 7yo OTTB who has always been SO fussy with every bit I’ve tried (which has been…a TON :sob:) but he’s so good-natured that I’ve been suspecting it’s a physical issue.

Low and behold, the dentist today discovered that he very likely had his tongue poorly tied at the track :sob: scar and everything. He recommended a bit with a high and wide port or a hack. I’m looking at Mylers for a ported bit, but I know next to nothing about hacks.

Would love suggestions on either!

I don’t know about hacks, but I like a myler bit and use them in both pelhams and D rings. You can get them in tons of different cheek pieces with more or less tongue relief, so I’d try a friend’s or do the bit trial program from Mary’s Tack for $10 and see what your horse responds to. You can also email Myler mylerbitsusa@mylerbitsusa.com and get their advice - I did a few years ago and they were very helpful.

They all have their tongues tied at the track.

Perhaps his was improperly applied, or something else caused the damage.

Best of luck.
