Bit Question: Neue Schule Verbindend Legal?

I am having trouble figuring out if the Neue Schule Verbindend is legal for competition. I have looked at all the rule books and read other discussion threads about them but they aren’t definitive…

Their website lists them as “dressage legal.” My dressage trainer says they are legal. The rule book makes me question it.

Dressage daily just had this on their website about Neue Schule bits: http://www.dressagedaily.com/article/neue-schule-dressage-bits-creating-stir-us

This is the bit: http://nsbits.com/global/index.php/verbindend.html

Does anyone know for sure? Or have advice on how to get a definitive answer?

I would say yes, it is a double jointed bit with a lozenge that does not have a port or anything that rolls/moves in the mouthpiece, and no leverage or curb action. The use of pictures as “only these are legal” used to be helpful but now everyone ha their own slightly different shaped mouthpiece.

Myler snaffles are legal (as long as you don’t use the hooks) and they have this curvy shape.

Send a photo of the bit to USEA or USEF and they will give you a definite answer.

Check with USEF. An email from USEA is worthless if USEF deems it illegal.

I’d have to see the bit in person, but it looks eventing-dressage legal to me from the picture. Remember that the bit rules are different for straight dressage and eventing dressage. A bit legal for one may be illegal for the other.
