So I have a TON of bits. Right now they are all in a drawer and it’s a heavy mess. I want to set up something that is easy to use and get to the bit I want. Suggestions?
Pegboard. I just have a piece hanging on my wall, but a good idea I saw was to run a strip of pegboard around the top of the tack room near the ceiling in otherwise unused space. The lady used a hook on a pole to get the bit she needed, but a step stool would work fine, too.
I’ve just got mine hanging on a tack cleaning hook. Something like https://www.smartpakequine.com/tack-cleaning-hook-2039pb?utm_source=Google&utm_medium=googlepla&utm_content=TES&utm_campaign=2109666975&cm_mmc=Google--googlepla--TES-_-2109666975&source=pla&kpid=2109666975&gclid=Cj0KEQiAypGjBRCPme6jmqu3gZsBEiQA8NAiIEhcDRaMaPIw4PjatJFbBdgPLwu_dbGjKvCYF52to4MaApC48P8HAQ
If you wanted them more decorative and organized, you can get colorful pegboard panels.

A tack store I visited had a piece of white plastic chain, hanging from the ceiling in a corner. they had bits hanging on the chain with S hooks (made from paper clips). The chain is sold at Home Depot.
Will have to look into the peg board. I have probably 40 bits or so in there not including the many I have loaned out at the moment. What can I say I heard bits and bridles
My dressing room came with two saddle racks and a bridle rack that runs across the top of the wall between the horses and dressing room. Various things hang from the hooks: bridles, halters, girths, grooming tote. Just inside of the door to the right, I had a rack installed for shovel, rake, fork. I also hang a laundry bag from this. Underneath this I had a wrap rack installed to hold polos, quilts and standing bandages. My dressing room has a “V” nose so there is a bit more room. In the “V”, I have a tall multi drawer container that holds a variety of things from duct tape, bandaging supplies, first aid stuff and a few things like hose nozzle, glow sticks. on the far side of the “V”(away from door) I had a large ring installed and I have a blanket holder.(it’s the kind that has about 4 bars) This holds scrim sheets in the summer and coolers in the winter. In front of that, I have a fold up carry all that has multiple pockets. I leave it open and my helmet, crops, etc goes in the top, next one down is my collection of gloves, then fly ear nets. The bottom holds a variety of stuff. I have another small drawer container next to the saddle racks that has 4 drawers(2 small and 2 large). This holds a few tools, flashlight etc. The next small drawer holds fleeces for covering noseband and ear pompoms. The bottom two drawers hold towels. Under the bridle hooks, I had two hooks installed and have a large coated wire basket hanging there. It holds fly spray, etc and the nice thing is I can hang spurs etc off it because it is wire. On the floor towards the saddle racks, I had something installed called a bucket ringer. It flips out when I need to use it and stack my buckets in it, including my small wash bucket, with sponge and shampoos. I keep my saddle pads in a zippered plastic bag that came with one of my horse blankets and sit it on top of my smaller drawer container. My port a potty sits on the floor under the saddle rack. I totally live out of my trailer dressing room.
Sorry, for some reason my reply double posted from the dressing room thread.
My trainer’s tack room is a small shed with a gable roof. The rafters are open from inside and all along one set of rafters we have a series of nails from which hang her extensive collection of bits. They generally don’t hang far below the bottom edge of the rafter so they don’t get in the way, but are easily accessible and sort of decorative.
If you don’t have a rafter, maybe a length of 2x8 lumber with nails or even simple hooks, hanging near the roof or above the bridles racks?
I have always thought bit boxes are nice. can be heavy tho, and not as price-efficient. But very lovely.
