This is for the horse who can destroy shoes like no other. Short backed, long stride, can even step hinds off. He destroyed gloves on the first ride. Please tell me their 30 day guarantee isn’t worthless.
It is not worthless. It is not biting the bullet; it is biting into delicious comfort food. Lobster mac n’ cheese. Roast chicken with buttered noodles. Hot fudge sundaes. (At least it was for my horse and me. And if they don’t work for your horse, as no boots work for every horse, I have always found their customer service excellent).
The fit to the hoof seems really solid, though I’ve not done more than trot him in hand. However, the pastern straps are HUGE. When adjusted to the recommendations on the instructions, there is a ton of extra strap and very little Velcro contact. Help??
Shorten the strap where it attaches to the basket, not where you’re fastening the pastern strap, but rather the other end the holds the fixed end to the boot. Also, that pastern strap has nada to do with boot retention–you really should be able to put at least a couple of fingers comfortably under it. (I’ve had great luck w/ Renegades at speed on horrid trail for over 50 miles–they go clopclop. Rattlerattle. All good.)
I adjusted it every way I could find and its either really really loose, like way more than a couple fingers, or the Velcro is barely attached. I suspect the issue may be that he has huge hooves for his size. He’s in the biggest vipers and a 2WW classic. He’s 15.2h and average build.
You can buy a smaller size velcro strap from Renegade. http://www.renegadehoofboot.com/pasternstrap.aspx
Call Renegade and ask them… it may be an issue of adjusting the cable, but it maybe your guy just has big feet but refined ankles.
I can actually get my whole hand in the fronts. They stayed on today though. I will email them pictures tomorrow when it stops raining. The hinds twisted or loosened or something on my ride, so I need to figure that out too.
