Biting fly "tent"?

A while ago I read about an ominous looking black tent thing that worked wonders for all kinds of flies. It was around $200 and several members raved about it, only mentioning it was odd looking and took a bit for their horses to not give it the stink eye  Does anyone have the name, info or link? And more reviews would be great. We are thinking about it for next year. Thanks!

That sounds like the Epps trap:

Simkie, That’s it! Thanks!!

I’d love to here feedback on this one or the other biting fly traps, too. We seem to have hoards of yellow flies here :-/

I went looking for traps for them a couple nights ago and found these other options:

Horse Pal
Nzi Trap

We were thinking about going with the Horse Pal…

I have had the Horse Pal for enough years that the top trap is cracked and the mesh is shredding. It has worked at times and has been ignored by flies at times. I always did enjoy watching the frantic horse flies being stalked by the resident spiders.
Yes, I would buy it again. Nothing is a miracle biting fly remover.

Rutgers University developed one of these traps and has plans available to make your own. We have made/used them. They work relatively well. The catch is you need to place it in the ‘flyway’ to catch the most pests so you may have to move it around to find where the flies are flying.

As litle boys trying to catch rabbits in wooden home made traps, the first lesson we learned was to move the trap to the areas where rabbits were active.
The same is true with biting flies and biting fly traps. Horse flies breed in wet areas and travel to where the animals are grazing.
So use this path with a Epps Trap, Horse Pal Trap, or your handmade version to intercept flies en route.
You will have a little smirk knowing you out smarted these nasty biting flies.
