Bitless Bridle Needed

Due to significant ataxia and my need to have a death grip on the saddle (that’s another story) I need a bridle that won’t either do damage to the horse or send mixed messages. What one do you suggest?

I realize this topic has been gone over ad nauseam, but a search did not make it easy. If anyone remembers the title or can provide a link, I would appreciate it.

How trained is the horse? I ride my horse in a rope halter with the reins attached to the bottom loops. It works oddly well assuming your horse has steering.

I like this better than other bitless options as the noseband will end up sitting in slightly different spots on her nose each time I put it on. I have also used soft nosed hackmores on my lesson horses, but I change the chain curb strap it comes with to leather. The downside to these though, is that I find the noseband is narrow and the cheeks end up coming high.

I have one and I love it, wish my mare loved it more…indoors and focused she rode beautifully in it, not so sure outside…but she is a work in progress :sigh:…I am keeping it and trying her again in the winter when the cold keeps us indoors, it is just a nicely made thing, handy to have about to swap a horse out of a bit if needed

My crew go well in their Evolution bridles from http://www.mossrockendurance.com. I love their versatility as you can use them with a bit, as a cross-under (like Dr. Cook’s, but not), or a sidepull. Their continuous rein design allows them a better release than any other cross-under I have used and the rein feels like it does with a bit on the other end (I find cross-unders with the rein rings clunky and weird in the hand). It’s a lot of bang for the buck and she does custom sizes no extra charge.

You might also consider a skawbrig like http://www.lightriderbridle.com, though I have no experience with them personally.

there is no horse, and apparently here will be no horse.
