Bits for Draft x?

I am starting my foxhunting journey and my big Belgian x wears a 7 in snaffle (yes 7 in) but I think I need something a little bit stronger for hunting. I cannot find anything except snaffles in 6.5 or 7 inches. Any ideas?

Also looking for a source that sells quality bridles for melonheads. The current one was custom made but I can’t keep doing that lol. He fits in a regular oversize headstall but his nose is enormous and doesn’t usually fit o/s nosebands!

I feel your pain. My Hackney wears a 3.5" bit and the only cheap bits available are simple snaffles or mullen mouth bits. They aren’t cheap by any means, but Bowman has a wide array of bits in a wide array of sizes. Big Black Horse has some pelhams & kimberwickes in giant size.

I vaguely recall some place selling nice draft riding tack, but I can’t remember where. I would find an Amish harness maker. I know a couple that make nice bridles. I also know a couple that I only use for repairing halters.

So Bowman. I recognize the name from the site I got my harness from. I just looked them up again because my guy needs a 6” bit which is also hard to find, and I’d like to get him a different driving bit.

Bowman is just shy of a two hour drive from me! I had no idea :joy:. Next time I go to Farriers R Us down in Millersburg, I’m going to have to stop here too!

I have found them on Ebay too. My guy’s head is big but maybe not as big as yours and I found the Micklem works best for him (he can actually fit in a standard horse size!) Bartville Harness makes decent flat hunting bridles and can custom make something if you need it bigger!

Is the warmblood tack store legit? I saw that wrbsite but it looked scammy to me.

I think one brother does harness and the other does bits, something like that. It’s not the same guy, but they are related.

How cool! Such a small world.

Here’s the real small world part. Apparently the Bit Bowman bought the patterns from my BO when he got out of the bit business.
