Update: crisis averted
Bit of a long story, sorry. So my mare has been living at my local equine repro lab through two breeding cycles trying to get an embryo to do ET on. Both times she has bred bred she cycled perfectly with an excellent follicle and great sperm motility on the stallion’s end (frozen). Well one of the vets from the repro lab called me yesterday after my mare was hauled home and made me an offer that would be hard to turn down. Basically, they feel bad that my mare and the stallion we were using appear to have just been “genetically incompatible” and offered to keep their recipient mare herd around a few extra weeks as well as attempting another breeding to her at a significantly reduced cost to me if I can locate (before this weekend!) a different, younger (than 2001), stallion that would be able to get fresh semen from.
So basically I’m looking for ideas of Hunter stallions who fit that bill who would possibly be able to provide fresh semen even though it is after the traditional breeding season. Thoughts? TIA.
