Black Country Eden vs Eloquence & my horse's back?

New horse so of course I have to angst about tack.

My saddle fits him reasonably well but suddenly doesn’t seem to fit me- horrible chafes. He’s a completely different shape than my last horse though so perhaps that is it.

I threw a friend’s Black Country Eden on him and it fit like a glove, which was a little strange because he has, in my opinion, a pretty flat back. The owner did say there’s a ton of flocking in the panels so maybe that’s it. I’d ride in it but it’s a 17" and my butt and femurs really need an 18" so I’m fairly sure trying it will not answer my question of whether I’ll get chafes from the saddle or not!

I have the opportunity to try an Eloquence and an Eden in an 18" but to save having to ship both to me, I wondered if anyone more familiar with Black Country could make a suggestion which she should send me first to try. Here’s the horse’s back:

Thanks.

I wasn’t able to open pics, but my “abnormal” TB (for a TB) goes in an Eloquence. The Eden is curvy, better for a dippy back. Lots of TBs in Edens, but Eloquence for me. I’d reach out to Trumbull Mt - they may weigh in here, but deal in BCs and likely to give great advice.

Those pictures are not helpful to see about saddle fitting. Please take a picture from the side not at an angle with the horse standing mostly square.

it sounds like with the saddle you are describing is not blanaced on the new horse. Probably too wide so you are sitting more on the pommel .

OP, can’t the seller of the saddle look at tracings of your horse’s back and tell you which model would be best? Regardless, that’s where I’d start. Tracings of your horse’s back and proper pictures. Then, send to a saddle fitter who should be able to direct you. I would NOT recommend dealing with Trumbull Mountain, do a search on Yelp/BBB to find out why. Personally, I’ve had luck with the Eloquence on various shapes of backs, even have a couple for sale, but won’t help you any because they’re both 17". Try Pelham Saddlery, they should be able to find something for you…

Dune, can you send me details about your saddles for sale? I tried to pm you but it wouldn’t allow me to

From what I can see, your horse has more of an Eloquence back. As mentioned above, the Eden is on their “dippy” tree and the rails, compared to the Eloquence are closer in the waist and more angled.

Thanks, all. I was just asking in generalities as the seller is an acquaintance rather than a pro. My feeling was that the new horse is more an Eloquence shape but if it doesn’t work she can send me the Eden as well. Neither may work as I have a proportionally long femur but it’s always worth a shot. But nothing lost if it doesn’t work out.

Is this the horse on new thread?
