Black Country Saddle

What do you guys think? Found one used that seems great quality and puts rider in good hunt seat position. Difficult fit, needs extra long forward flap.

I almost bought one a few years ago rec by an independent fitter. Super comfy. Ultimately bought a Tad Coffin as I prefer the narrow twist and both fit the horse very well. IIRC @vxf111 has/had one.

The caveat I am an eventer/dressage rider, and not a hunter… but BC has made a huge difference with two of my horses. One has been in a Vinci BC for over two years. The other just started this spring. I struggled with several saddles for him, always involving fitters and new saddles, and he finally said this one was JUST RIGHT. It is a Vinci with felt panels. I’ve seen such an astounding difference with it on two of my horses that I am ordering another custom one.

Rider wise, I’ve liked the balance of every BC I’ve ever sat in.

I have a BC and it is fantastic. I got mine new and it was a bear to break in bit now that it is, it’s great. Wears like iron, and is comfortable to sit in as well.

I had a Vinici (for dressage) and loved it.

I love mine. I have a BC Ricochet with wither gussets that was made for a particular horse but has been great for others as well. It’s very balanced and secure for me as well.

My Quantum is well over a decade old, looks almost new, and fits more horses than any other saddle I’ve ever owned. No regrets

I had one but it was too wide for my guy and the twist was too wide for me. They are nice saddles.

Agree. Nice saddles. The twist is wide, at least the one I trialed

I have a BC Tex eventer and love it. It puts me in the most secure position I’ve felt and it fits most horses I put it on.

Love my BSC saddle(S!) . any one who sat in my Quantum eventually bought one. Even better score if yo can get one with. “Serge panels”. Between the wool flocking and the fabric my BCS Riley seems to mold to the day’s weather. At first I worried the serge would wee pout or get nasty dirty. Not an issue.

(Note- I’m an eventer lurking on the hunter forum)

I have a BC dressage saddle and have ridden extensively in several others (jump and dressage). Unfortunately I have no idea what the names are!

I like Black Country because the fit to the horse. The fitter I use, Patty Merli, is fantastic. Her eye is sharp for both the fit to the horse and the way it balances the rider.

I can’t say I prefer the feel of a BC saddle to a CWD, Antares, or Devoucoux. If it were up to me, I would ride in one of those three. But I am a wool flocked proponent and feel it is better for the horse!

I have a Black Country Ricochet and am very happy with it.
