Enjoy! This is in SE Pennsylvania.
lol - someone thought it was a coyote, really??
technically, this is not a black fox. it is vulpes vulpes (red fox), grey phase – red fox[es] regardless of color will always have a white tail tip. this variation is called a silver fox. lovely fur though. just hope he stays away from hunters, around here people love to have that pelt color in their collection
Yes, I know it’s a black morph of the red fox and often called a silver fox, and I’m not surprised that non-wildlife or non-hunting people wouldn’t recognize it and not having seen a coyote and thinking all foxes are red (no, they don’t know about grey ones) would wonder. The poster herself thought no, it might not be a coyote. Heck, people identify bobcats as cougars and black bears as Bigfoots. I’m just glad they took and shared the photos. But the color of this fox comes across as jet black and beautiful which is why I chose that subject line.
It’s Inky from the Sister Jane books.
lol, I thought of that, too!
He’s beautiful. I wasn’t aware that reds had a black variation.
My boss often sees coyotes when he is out hunting. This year he saw one that was black and tan with some white markings.
My son sent me a photo he took the other day of a coyote a block from his house. It was quite silver-looking.
And get this: he lives in Haight Ashbury.
too bad your boss couldn’t have snapped a picture! that coyote sounds gorgeous.
we have a few coydogs here - what type of dog, i don’t know - one of them looks like this:

collie? gsd? heaven knows… but nothing IMHO is so pretty as wild canids.
Iron Springs is down the ‘block’ from us. Countless fox to be had/seen around our place. Thought I saw this guy last week running across our hay field.
Our local fox experts say it is a silver fox with a dark winter coat
So beautiful - thanks.
WOW, and so healthy looking. thanks Anne.

You’re right! What a beauty.
How handsome!
How could anyone think he was a coyote?
Nothing against coyotes – I like them. But this guy looks nothing like one.
Wow, what a gorgeous animal!
We see very few foxes here, and many coyotes. I wish it was the reverse.
