Still looking for someone who may “know” Barney. I am Barney’s current owner, and am trying to find earlier owners. I would just like to find out anything about his past. His last owner only knew what the horse dealer had told them.
Barney was bought by Southwest Horse Company (John Christiana) sometime in 2005, and sold along with a carriage (Roberts white vis-a-vis with green velvet seats) and harness to a customer of his in Louisiana in the summer of 2005 to fill their request for a horse and carriage. This was a “package deal.”
They were told that Barney had been “a carriage horse all his life in Minnesota” and that he had been bred by his owners who have a large livery service. They were also told that he had been Amish trained.
Barney was sold to them as a 13 year old grade Percheron gelding in 2005. He is nearly 18 hands. He has an irregular white patch between his hind legs that can be seen when he is viewed from the rear.
He has a long star and has a faint circle of white hair around his right eye (old injury?)
His tail has been docked very short- about 3 to 3 and a half inches.
I know that black Percheron geldings are probably “a dime a dozen” in Minnesota (if that is really where he came from) but I keep hoping someone who remembers him will see one of my posts and get in touch.
Photos of Barney are on my website where he has his very own page. Any info or leads would be appreciated. I just would like to know more about his past and his training.
