Blanket help needed

Last year I bought my youngster some 84 blankets…he is 4 going on 5 now, but when I put those blankets on, well, it looks like he is wearing a mini skirt! LOL He is nearly 18h and big bodied.

So I finally found the Amigo XL 87" fits him great and leaves us a little bit of room to grow into (if he grows more, he is going to have to deal with the mini skirt look!). I have found the Amigo XL in the light and medium weight. The heavy weight seems to be out of stock everywhere…I even emailed Horsewear and they no longer carry it. I found one place that had it in the 87…but it’s 4 weeks since I’ve ordered and they still haven’t shipped (I am starting to feel scammed).

So, any suggestions as to other blankets that fit similar to the Amigo XL? Horseware suggested the Supreme as an alternate…but that’s their most expensive and I don’t want to risk ordering it until I know for sure he is not going to need anything bigger. I’ve posted on used tack sites, but no luck so far.
Thanks!

Would a Rambo optimo blanket liner solve your problem?

The Optimo liner is a great idea. They don’t come in XL, but they do run huge. And it will clip in to either of your other blankets.

Alternatively, the Schneider’s Big Fella line goes up to a 94!

I was going to recommend you look at Schneider’s as well. They have multiple types of blankets and sheets that come in large sizes for the ahem generously sized equine.

There is also a Horseware specific group on Facebook where people sell and put on ISO adds for Horseware blankets.

Thanks for the suggestions - have joined the FB group. The optimo liner or stable blanket might work and I can always use the lightweight on top for turnout. I had been looking at the Schneider’s blankets…but wasn’t sure how the fit and quality would be. Plus, then I would also have to buy new hoods…so was hoping to stay with the Horseware line. But I may not have an option. He was supposed to be 16 hands (LOL)…so did not expect to have this problem!

Horseware stuff is awesome and I share the love in it, but Shire’s is also very nice–and fits BIG. Might be worth checking out

I have found the Schneiders blankets to be excellent quality. As for the hoods, just move the D rings for hood on the blanket- takes a few minutes if you have a sewing machine, or a blanket repair place would probably do it while you wait.

Horseware neck covers have 2" velcro to attach to the blanket, I don’t think your idea will work.

Yes - Schneider Saddlery has a line of “Big Fella” blankets - cut generously for the big guys.
Schneider blanket quality has improved immensely over the years - they have a lot of choices in ballsitic nylon that last ten years of more and they seem to fit a lot of horses really well.
