Blanketing - how do you attach the leg straps?
I criss cross to was thought that way also was told that when horse roll there is less chance of a hoof getting caught.
My pet peeve is rear flap I really do not see the use for them and my mare will make them discusting, the only one that seems to stay clean is the Big D but in my area one can only find the light turn out, which will not work all winter with our temps. I am ready to remove everyone of them ( about 4 blankets).
I, too, dislike those rear flaps and I took them off my blankets. I guess if I had a horse with a wispy tail I might leave it on, but they just seem to make a mess of the back legs and tail.

First strap around the leg and connect to the same side. Second strap then goes through the loop created by the first strap and also connects back to its own side.

More stable and keeps the straps from rubbing the legs.
Oh man, I’ve been criss-crossing to opposite legs. Why did I never know about this method of connecting the straps on the same side but crossed over in the middle? Brilliant!

I do both, trying to figure out which is best (do up same side with twist, or criss cross diagonally)…with my Big D’s and my horse, I have no opinion that one is better than the other. Main thing is to get them where a foot cannot get caught. Always wondered…

I have always done it this way, which happens to be what the instructions said on a Weatherbeeta I bought many years ago.
