Blankets for the wide horse

Hi y’all,

My Holsteiner gelding has been wearing the Amigo XL sheets/blankets over the last few years and they are the only ones that haven’t rubbed him raw (even his Rambos leave him with bald spots over the shoulders after a day or so). His turnout situation is fabulous with one exception - his new field mates LOVE to play blanket tag, and his current wardrobe is starting to look a little shabby. I was about to order him a few backup blankets but it looks like the sheet and the heavy are non existent in his size now. Does anyone know if Horseware has a direct replacement for them? The Schneider Big Fella line also fits him well, but they’re offering limited options too.

TL/DR - what blankets work best on chunky warmbloods and still hold up to turnout shenanigans?

Thanks!!

Have you tried the Amigo or Rambo Wug cuts? Those work well on my WBs, especially the Rambo for the high-withered horses.

You might look at the Premier Equine line, particularly their Buster rugs:

Premier Equine heavyweight turnouts

They’re located in Britain, but they ship fast. (The holidays and bad weather might delay it some). I ordered a turnout from them last year and received it within a week. The rugs are high quality, waterproof, and cut generously.

I have the same issue - and the Amigo XL in an 87 is the optimal fit on my giant youngster!
I recently found the XL heavyweight on this site: https://www.minihorseshop.co.uk/horseware-amigo-bravo-12-xl-heavy-400g

The reviews on the company are mixed…I decided to take a chance. I will say that I did get a shipping notice within 2 days…and it’s been tracking it’s way over. Says delivery on the 17th. So fingers crossed!

Adams has the Hero XL sheet: https://adamshorsesupply.com/amigo-hero-900-xl-turnout-lite-0g.html

A few people suggested the Rambo Optima…as did the reps at Horseware (I asked if they were going to be restocking the XL blankets).
