Blankets/sheets proportioned for ponies

Which brands are scaled down for ponies? My new 13.3 pony came with a turnout sheet and it’s the right size (length) but huge on him. The neck opening is hanging low on his chest, the drop is almost to his knees, and all the straps are really long.

Years ago I bought a Schneiders sheet for my 14.2 Arab; the surcingles were so long I had to knot them to shorten them.

Looking mostly for a turnout sheet (size 62 or 63). Pony is out 24/7 with endless hay and run-in shed, quite fuzzy and will be working regularly in an indoor. I’d like to keep him dry when there’s freezing rain and wind.

Rambo/Rino/Amigo makes a pony sized blanket. They are shorter and have narrower shoulder openings. Just tried one for my 14.2 big bodied guy and it’s too short, so it will probably fit a 13.3 nicely. Can also look at www.justforponies.com, they seem to have most of the pony sized options on there.

Premier equine makes pony sized everything. I have their regular blankets are really like them, less pricey than horsewere too. They all tend to have a long drop but I’ve come to appreciate it for windy days.

I have owned just about every brand of blanket for my 13.1h ponies and I agree with the Rambo/Rhino/Amigo if your pony is on the fine boned side. A 63" fits my 13-13.2h welsh ponies perfectly. No shoulder gussets so they fit a bit snugger but belly straps fit well. I always go with the 1200 denier if I were to purchase an Amigo. I beleive the Rambo/Rhino are 1000 denier and hold up well.

WB are also good but I always had to go down one size, so a 60" fits them well. They have shoulder gussets so I find they fit bigger.

It’s been a few years but I would say do NOT get your pony a Rider’s International by Dover. Yes, the sheet was scaled down, but it seemed as if the neck opening was horse size, so it did not work at all for my ponies. My two ponies have Amigo and Saxon blankets.

I had a Dover sheet for my last horse and had the same problem. This pony is wide and chunky so maybe I should look for one with shoulder gussets. I like how horseware fits and not having leg straps.
Who knew shopping for an official sized pony would be so difficult.

I’m glad someone else thinks about this, I need a 66 for my pony and my mare’s 69 went down to his knees. I guess at least he’ll be covered up?

I bought a Horze one for my medium pony that was listed as a “pony blanket” and the drop on it fit her really well but they don’t appear to make it anymore.

All arabs.

Schneiders has a line for ponies as well.

For the smaller ones, I’ve had the best luck with Weatherbeeta–hold up great but not a lot of color choices. Best fit through neck and shoulders, good drop without ending up “tea length” and ending up between the knees and fetlocks.

Weatherbeeta fits ponies the best. Amigos didn’t last on my guy. He’s easy on blankets as well.

Schneiders are too big in the chest for the thinner built ponies.

I found the Rhino sheets to fit the best without too much drop. Said Rhino got destroyed last year and in a pinch replaced by a Smartpak sheet, same size… I swear it came within 6" of the ground and the leg straps kept getting stuck. Debating ordering a Schneiders to replace it, or maybe just bit the bullet and get what I know fits with the Rhino.

I had one Schneiders pony size; slipped sideways like nobodies business; had horse size ones with poor stitching. Only brand that ever rubbed one of my horses. Maybe it was a bad blanket year (like with vehicles) but I am done with Schneiders!
