Other than Amigo and Rambo, are there any other brands of horse blankets that come with tail straps instead of leg straps?
Rhino Wug. We have one, it doesn’t shift at all.
My cheapo Shires sheet (I believe it’s the Highlander) only has a tail strap. My gelding hasn’t managed to destroy it yet (meanwhile he’s already ripped his brand new 1200D SmartPak mediumweight), so I give it the thumbs up!

Yep, I have the pink and purple polka dotted Shires midweight (~$100) and all it has is the tail strap. Mare has been wearing it for the last three weeks straight, and it’s stayed in perfect shape and position on her, and the first thing she does when she goes out every morning is drop and roll.
That being said, basically any blanket can go from a leg strap to a tail strap blanket if, you know, you move/remove some straps.
I hate leg straps, so I converted any blanket I had to a tail strap. Pretty easy to do and no cost
I’ve found the Bucas blankets work pretty well with a tail strap instead of leg straps. I don’t remember that they came with a tail strap specifically, but I could add one between the back leg strap dees – worked for my horse that hated leg straps.
Both of my mares wear several blankets because they live out 24/7. I converted all of their blankets to trail strap, by shortening a leg strap and then putting a knot on each side. Works fine.
The Amigo I have w/o leg straps does have a tail strap and still shifts annoyingly (to me) on my Big Guy.
His new Big D has neither leg or tail strap, does have a tail flap and hardly shifts at all - even when Naughty Pony tugs on the tail flap.
NP has a Smartpak TO that came with leg straps that quickly stretched to useless, so I removed them. Blanket does not shift a bit.
IMO the fit of the blanket does more to keep it in place than either leg or tail straps.
I don’t use leg straps, even if the blanket comes with them. I put a tail strap on the back rings instead. You can buy Rambo tail straps (plastic snaps, elastic strap covered with a flexible plastic tube) for like $12. Well worth it.
IME, tail straps are better than sliced bread. Blankets stay put and I can be lazy… just unbuckle surcingles, lift the tail strap over the horse’s rump, and pull the blanket off over the horse’s head. I can’t be the only person who’s forgotten to unsnap leg straps and given a horse a wedgie… Or gotten so distracted by putting leg straps on that I forgot to fasten the surcingles…
I’d say stay with anything in the Rambo line.
Bucas leg straps give Cloudy and Hattie wedgies.
Weatherbeeta leg straps gave Cloudy and Callie wedgies.
The Rambo without leg straps worked well on Callie and works well on Cloudy and Hattie.
Of course my horses lie down to sleep, lie down to roll often, and spent as much time off their feet as they do on their feet. I did have Baker stall blankets that worked well with no leg straps for Cloudy and Callie. I don’t know how the Baker turnouts work as I never bought one.

Me, too!
Thanks for all the responses, evereyone! I do know I can convert them all to tail straps, but IME, some brands just aren’t cut to stay in place that way, no matter how well they fit the horse.
I really appreciate the suggestion to buy the Rambo tail straps. I particularly love those and did not realize you could order them separately.
I’m going to be replacing a lot of my old blankets between now and next season, so I really appreciate know which other brands come with tail straps and which ones stay in place if you convert to tail straps.

Some do
Some of the weatherbeeta rugs do, mainly stable ones so it depends if you’re after a stable rug or a turnout rug…. plenty of them here though, this is where I get mind from, really good shop http://www.totalhorse.co.uk/collections/weatherbeeta-rugs
I honestly didn’t realize that tail straps existed on “regular” blankets… I’d only seen them on coolers and fly sheets!
Not to steal OP’s thread, but has anyone had an issue with the horse pooping on the tail strap?

There’s a reason the Horseware (Rambo/Rhino/Amigo) butt straps have plastic snaps and are covered in a plastic tube! (They were not originally and I think people complained.)
So am I going to be the only one to admit to having the baling string tail strap option installed on some of my turnout blankets?
I have a county blanket “system” (waterproof outer, detachable neck, liner) and it has a tail strap. It stays in place beautifully, love it!

DIY version?
I’ll stand right next to you in line as I am currently planning to replace a broken front buckle with twine & a slipknot.

I’ll stand with you!! I have a pony with loose poop when on a non-grass diet so baling string is an invaluable tail strap - merely tie on, allow a few weeks for proper soiling, remove and throw away!
