Sadly, after just two years the Jockey Club have walked away. I still believe there are interesting synergies between racing and eventing but I suspect the JC were taken by surprise by the differences between the two sports. Their first year they had to deal with Covid19 restrictions, underestimated the traffic coming onto the Park, didn’t have the range of supporting horsey events or shopping opportunities and managed to annoy many, many volunteers. There are also rumours that the previous organiser offered them absolutely no help. This year the JC had learned a huge amount but I suspect they also lost money as people were still complaining about the year before…
The future of the Event is currently unknown but it is such a significant competition I’m pretty sure something will be sorted. It would be an immense shame if it did die.
