BLM auction coming up has a ton of yearlings!

Almost all fillies. If you ever dreamed of training a baby horse, this is an opportunity to get a little one that hasn’t been screwed up. Some are absolutely adorable.

Also, they have more burros available than I’ve seen in a several years. Most are yearlings with some babies available as well.

If I had proper fencing, I’d love to pick one up.

You only need five foot tall fences for a yearling.

And this is where we really miss eightpondfarm’s comments…

Not a youngster but I’m intrigued by this guy’s coloring: they say dun but… red body, darker legs (not black), and mane and tail have flaxen, but not entirely? Red dun flaxen? Silver dapple on bay?

Usually you can find a trainer who will get the horse past the 5 foot fences requirement of the BLM. I ended up in that direction and picked up a 2yo that already had his title, but you could contact a BLM trainer and have them pick up a yearling and put the work on it then send it to you later.

Yes, I think he’s silver bay. He does not have a dorsal stripe or face mask and I think the markings on his legs are the longer guard hairs disrupting the washed out tone of his dark stockings vs dun striping.

Will be interesting to see if his unusual coloring drives up the bids.

So I spent a good part of today looking at videos. This one is definitely a top pick. Someone go get her.

Nice! Like a smoky palomino.

Very cute!

She’s lovely. Just floating.

I don’t know…could it be that she’s still in the leggy phase?

I don’t think that one is, but there is a sooty palomino gelding in that group who is really gorgeous - loads of dapples and lovely color, about 15.2h if you search by height.

Oh I see she was identified as a silver bay. Gorgeous.

I have always found the videos of these horses very challenging to evaluate since they rarely appear to be moving freely; always ready to turn and flee. @Phaedra1 she is so tense and clenched I cannot tell what is going on with the stifles. They appear very “pointy” when she moves but she is overall so tense who can say

@Xanthoria nothing to add about color, but man is he a stout fellow. I kinds like him

Did you see the sooty palomino I mentioned above? He’s a chonk too with a floaty trot

would really love to see him in a more open space. He is pretty fancy color and will probably be snapped up. How trainable a 9yo gelding will be remains to be seen.
