The palominos are all very nice looking. But man, some of those horses look like they got the worst of the trips. Poor things. And poor No ears. I want to take her home and make some āearsā for her. I bet once she got used to them a fly mask with the attached ears would make her very happy. The older roan gelding is quite handsome. He needs a soft place to land, too.

I canāt get No Ears because Iām only approved for a yearling or burro. Is any COTHer going to take her home? My mom is quite talented and would be happy to knit her ear covers in any color you wantā¦

They added some really pretty horses yesterday. Several Pintos.

Oh gosh I would love to take in Ears! But not the right timing right now. I am just about to start my mustang mare under saddle, and my daughter has a very complicated, fearful gelding that sadly got into bad hands prior to us. We adopted him sight unseen so he is a lot more work than we bargained for but he is stuck with us for the long run. They each come around in their own time
some faster than others. He is sadly going to be more complicated than one straight from the BLM due to mistreatment and outright abuse.

That poor boy. I donāt know why some people adopt these animals. They arenāt like āregularā horses and you canāt treat them as such. I still donāt know why they donāt screen the potential adopters better. I hope he learns that you will treat him much better.

I like her shoulder and she has nice, natural movement. Her back looks a little long. But I think she would be a lot of fun. I wish I were 30 years younger.

2404 is my pick despite the pretty obvious overbite. She seems interested in people and not that spooky, unsure of the flag though. 15 hands. Nicely put together girl. Wish I could take one on.

Weāre trying to decide on which lovely creature will be our new best friend. I love the female burros. If we get a gelding, I think we will call him Milton Burro, lol

42 is adorable but gonna go for a small fortune, if sheās not a buyback (and probably more if she is!) I love 21 and I hesitate to draw attention, but 10 is not only ADORABLE, heās a Misty Pony (and because heās a colt, they may not be as into buying him back. Heās also little enough he might be a fall pickup, which would give me until November or so to arrange hauling and convince my mother not to kill me. Luckily some of my neighbors here would probably conspireā¦) Iām also really trying to keep my brain in gear and not get into a pity-buy bidding war on 41. I actually do like him, and right now heās in the CVFās care as his dam unfortunately had a fatal accident last week, so heās an orphan now.
My vote for most likely sale topper, though, is 63, Marsh Mallowās black pinto filly. When DSC put up the first pictures of her on their FB I figured sheās either getting bought back or going to be a $15,000+ pony as sheās ADORABLE. Sheās got little wings on her shoulders! And sheās pitch black!
And yeah, I have a bidder number for the Chincoteague saleā¦and a list of favorites. Iām really bummed, though, my man Riptide doesnāt have a little lookalike. Heās like dream-pony stallion.

I will happily be one of your enablers! At 5ā8" I physically outgrew my 14.2 hh pony when I was 11, but have never emotionally outgrown poniesāand if I canāt have one, I like to encourage it in others.:D:D:D

It does not say this about him anywhere on the website so you might be safe since most people will not know this fact about him.
When my friend and I went to the Chincoteague pony auction back in 1999, a little Misty look-alike went for $3,500 and was sent back to the island (you can do that). Everyone cheered.

Oh, the pony fanatics know. DSC posts all year long with photos from all the bands and babies, and they follow CVFD on Facebook (which is where I heard about Bling Bling.)
@Moonlitoaks the buybacks are actually chosen in advance by the Fire Department. The listings donāt say which will be them yet, but there are groups of people who plan out buying them (because you get naming rights to the foal.) Because theyāre legally limited in how many ponies can live on their section of the island, they wonāt let anyone just give back a pony, they pick particular ones they want to keep, usually fillies but once in a while colts, to keep the herds balanced. Iām trying not get my hopes up until bidding opens because I"m afraid like half my favorites will be buybacks!
@chestnutmarebeware oh, I hear you. If the pony hit 13.2+, I could probably ride it but it would totally at the end of the day be living out my owning a Chincoteague pony childhood fantasy. I havenāt had anything but ex-racehorses since I was 12. Short sounds great, actually.

Thanks, I was wondering how that works since I knew space was limited on the island. Thatās neat that people are willing to do buybacks. Neither my friend nor I got a bidding number when we were there because we knew better, lol! We were college kids anyway, so not in a position to adopt.
I am so excited about the BLM auction starting tomorrow. Ears has had many. many looks, so I hope she fares well. Meanwhile, We have picked out a few favorite burros to bid on. Hubby and I will compare notes tonight. Our son has given us his vote already. My husband is awesome at picking names, too.

Has anyone done an online auction before? Do I bid early, or just sneak it in at the end? I was thinking first day and last day as the time is running out, if necessary. I followed the last one and it looked like no one really bid on the older burros (our first choices). Can anyone offer advice?
