CG, have you tried the new canned Wellness sliced/minced food? It’s grain free. All three of my kitties are super picky about their food, and much prefer sliced or chunky to pate. I tried all of the varieties of Wellness when it first came out a few months ago, and they ate all of them. They seem to have agreed that the Tuna is the best, and all three are still chowing down months later (knock on wood, lol).
Now, I’ve never fed any of mine anything with corn or soy in it. The foods I’ve fed before had oats, brown rice, or barley. The one time I left them with someone who fed them cheap crap, they almost died from bad diarrhea. Of course, at one point there were poisoned by something still unknown, so they are delicate from that. They could eat the very occasional cheap crap before that experience with no problems, but I’ve always fed them good stuff anyway. I used to use Innova, but it’s impossible to find.
I’ve not tried Taste of the Wild. The Blue Buffalo is available at PetsMart and TSC, but I’ve not seen TotW there.
I’m still amazed they don’t have any fleas. I don’t know how that works.
I’ve always been able to get TOTW at TSC.
Is it clearly labeled as such? I’m getting ready for another big order from www.petfooddirect.com and would love to include this in my mix.
Yes, it is. Looking at the label right now. I believe all the canned Wellness is actually grain free. My kitties loff the sliced and minced varieties. And while it’s chunky, the gravy part is very thick, so it doesn’t get all runny and messy like some of them can.
Wellness CORE is grain-free (I’m not shouting lol), I don’t think the others are.
But I was also wondering if it was possible to tell which varieties were chunky instead of more pate-like
I know not all of the dry is grain free, but I believe all of their wet varieties are. If you look on Pet Food Direct, they have pics of all the cans with the little “grain free” on the front of the label (in yellow).
Their pouches are the traditional slices of food in liquid sauce. The canned sliced/minced ones are chunks in a thicker gravy. Not thin, but not pate like either. The minced ones (like the Tuna that my kitties think is crack, lol) are chunky with more of the thick gravy while the sliced ones are mainly lots of slices with less sauce.
LOL, no, sorry, I didn’t make that clear- the CORE “model” is grain-free, whether it’s wet or dry, and it seems the Healthy Indulgence (the pouches) is as well. But the non-CORE varieties of canned wet aren’t grain-free.
If I’m reading you right, are you saying only the CORE (grain-free) varieties come in any sort of chunky/gravy types? In addition to the pouches, I mean.
Oh, I think I just found my answer, and it’s not the one I wanted
I now see a “cuts cubed” variety in cans, which says “grain-free” on the label, just not in the description which is why I didn’t see it before.
It’s twice as $$ as the regular canned Not sure I’ll do that. I’ll just get the regular Wellness, and use some of the other brands’ grain-free. Maybe I’ll get one pack of the cut/cubed as a treat
All of their wet food is grain free. Here is the regular canned pate: http://www.petfooddirect.com/Product/736/Wellness-Chicken-Formula-Canned-Cat-Food
It’s kind of blurry, but the yellow label says “grain free”.
These are the newer ones I’m talking about: http://www.petfooddirect.com/Brand/Wellness/Category/Cat/New/New-Items
The minced is small chunks in thick gravy. The sliced is mainly slices in a little bit of sauce. I think the chunked is sort of in between. None are particularly pate like, although the minced is probably the closest because it has the thickest sauce.
Wow, I am so sorry, I don’t know how I missed that about the grain-free! So sorry!!
You’d think I’d never fed their canned stuff before   It just got past me that it was ALL g-f, since the CORE is so much more blatant about it LOL
I’m suitably straightened out now, thank you :o
No worries, I thought I might be hallucinating there for a minute.
Anti-seizure meds can cause thyroid problems, which in turn can cause high cholesterol. If your epi is getting fat with high cholesterol, it would be a good idea to get a thyroid test. Get the results analyzed by Dr Jeanne Dodds…she is a specialist in interpreting thyroid tests for dogs on anti-seizure meds. The average vet doesn’t know how to do this. It could save your dog’s life.
My dogs are on the BB Wilderness as well and they love it… after going through several types of food that my boys just weren’t that interested in we switched to the BB and even the most finicky of pups enjoy it!
