I was the one warned, officially, by a TD a year ago at a recognized HT at Kentucky Horse Park for wearing a royal blue coat in Stadium. I’d worn it at many big sanctioned shows before (including a month earlier at Richland) with no issues. When I was warned, SJ was running long and we’d been in warm up for a long time (at least 30 minutes). I ride a very loud colored horse, so we are not subtle. They said I was three riders out and the TD, who was in warm up the whole time, walked over and had me read from her tiny rule book while I was sitting on my horse. I had another jacket at my stall and could have changed if she’d told me earlier. I’ve seen many, many folks wear the same jacket, or very similar, with no issues before and since. I now wear a navy jacket with royal collar and buried my lovely royal coat in the back of my closet. I was riding at Training where, of course, jackets are optional. Sadly, it was 90 degrees, so I had a sleeveless show shirt on and was stuck. After I panicked, she said I could ride with it this one time. This was followed by getting scolded by the in gate for barely making it to the ring on time after the 5 minute shaming. And yes, I wrote it up to USEF and to the show organizers. Awful experience over something so silly. I will add the color meets the dressage definition of a dark color although it is a royal blue.
Yes, US rules say dark color in dressage and SJ, so I am wondering how these light blue coats are legal. Although they are lovely!
I rode in the berry Horseware one in my first recognized, and felt somewhat conspicuous since everyone else was wearing black or navy. Especially on a paint! But my navy coat had been disfigured by a seamstress so I didn’t have much choice.
I was also the only one I saw using a non-white pad in dressage, even some other white horses had white saddle pads. Mine was a conservative light brown with dark brown trim–I thought it looked sharp!
How disappointing! That’s such a sharp looking coat.
Oh wow, it looks like the officials are trying to get these colours out!
I have a grey one too, which I love but im too fat for, and my black coat is a zip up not buttoned (I just saw on another thread someone got barked at for the wrong number of buttons!) im really done.
That coat above is lovely and I would actually consider that a fairly traditional colour.
That was for formal fox hunting. I don’t think there is a button rule in eventing!
^ That coat is most definitely Barbie pink.
Exactly like that one! Complete with the matching pink boots! And one day a custom saddle with hot pink piping! I already found a place that will make a breast-plate with pink padding…
A girl can dream, right?
@BoringEventer that coat was the best $40 I ever spent! Complete with sparkly buttons  I blame my hunter princess background for not allowing me to reach my childhood show clothes dreams at an appropriate age. I may rarely get to wear this outfit thanks to these pesky rules, but I sleep better at night knowing its hanging in my closet
