Hello!
My horse and I have been doing a lot of work on lateral suppleness with great improvement. However we are having some issues with X to M and then the sharp turn left. He leans on my left leg and counter bends through that corner and if I try and turn his nose he immediately falls in. We do not have this issue when we do K-X on the right rein. The left is his hollow side specifically. Any one else struggle to smooth out this movement?
You have to prep him. It can’t be a surprise you’re going to turn left.
I come in posting on the right diagonal. About 3 strides out from M I start vibrating the inside rein and put just a touch of tension on the inside leg to begin establishing the bend and give the warning it’s coming. By the time I’m to the end of the arena, horse is on the correct rein and settled.
Word of advice - stop riding the test. The test is quite easy and your horse is going to learn it. You can ride this movement from anywhere. A-X-M. C-X-K. F-X-C. Corner-X-Corner.
If you get too much leaning, I would do a circle in the corner to firmly establish the bend, and to enforce “get off my inside leg please”. You can also try X to M leg yielding, if you have that “tool” in your belt.
