Oh, I thought the OP was asking about show barns "I sort of derived that from “h/j barns,” but she actually wasn’t specific.

within 30-45 mins of NYC expect to pay between 2-3k :frowning: .NJ may be a bit less but that is about the norm north and east

WOW am I glad I live in a mid-size college town…my nice, regional-level show barn is $500 for full-service board (3x feeding with hay and grain and basic supplements, 2x stall cleaning, blanketing, basic grooming, outdoor turnout as weather permits and turnout in the indoor when it’s yucky out) and $395 for full training. We don’t do full grooming with tack/untack or anything like that, but trainer makes sure manes are pulled and noses/ears/legs are clipped when she rides, whether by enlisting an eager barn rat or just doing it herself.

Things are a lot more expensive in the Portland area, more like $700-900 for full board at the show barns and $500-800 for full training depending on how nice the facility/program is.

Here in Chicago land, the north suburban area is very pricey, running from $800ish for a nice boarding facility with multiple, less fancy trainers. BNT facility well over $1000. Here in the far west burbs, we’re high at $775, with the exception being Our Day, but you’re getting Charlie and the crew, so hey…you do get what you pay for!

Well, your budget must be greater than mine. Long Island, ~45 minutes from Manhattan by car… $900-1000 with no indoor. $1050-$1300 for an indoor. $1650+ for the larger show barns with an indoor and trails. Includes standard board (not grooming, but blanketing, all food, turnout).

Admittedly, add training and shoes (up to $300 for 4 steel shoes), yeah, you’ll get up there. Or if you board at Old Westbury or Hunters Moon.

I board 2 horses at the lower end in terms of price. Been at a few barns before this and the care is fantastic. Very much not a crummy high turnover lesson/trail ride type place.

I’m glad I live in the sticks and keep my ponies at home. It’s pretty swell except for cleaning up all the poop!!!

In the Chicago area, Board is usually between 900-1300 a month for a decent place. Hay/grain twice a day, 1/2 day turnout(3-4 hours), and nicer rings, etc. Most of these barns require you to be on full care/full training though so you are looking at about 1.5/2k a month.

In Dallas it is at least 1k a month for anywhere within 30-45 minutes of the city that has quality care and instruction.[/QUOTE]

For just board?

This number includes lessons from my experience.

Agreed. I’m certainly not hip to the programs but I can’t think of a place off the top of my head that charges over $1k straight up for board only.

Come to the Chicago/Northern Illinois area. Your mind will be blown.
