It’s a flippin’ nightmare for those of us who has just a minute here and there.
Man, its brutal. I can go get a cup of coffee while the site loads. Half the time, my browser times out. Its the old days, with the old COTH server again.
Happens many times a day, not just 8:00 to 8:30. Today it was 8:30 to 9:00, yesterday also at 11:30 to 1:00
With the exception of Giveaways, this round of pruning is complete. I’ve sent a query to our tech advisors regarding the site’s performance, and we’ll be working to address it.

I just heard back from our tech guys and they, too, suspect that high traffic is at play. Never fear, they’re going to be exploring various options over the next week for optimizing our server’s performance.
We feel your pain, but it’s a sign of the ever-increasing traffic to the site, which is really a GOOD thing!

I’m having a really difficult time these past couple of days–with everything BB related–takes FORever to load the BB in the morning (I check in the wee hours out here on the west coast–about 8am on the east coast). I can’t edit without losing whatever I replaced and never getting what I typed in as a replacement. I have no smilies anymore 
And no matter how I format it, no paragraph breaks! What gives?
FYI, quiet5 posted in another thread that clearing her cache resolved the posting issues. The timeframe of her access problems sounds similar to the other folks in the thread, so that will hopefully be addressed by the techs soon too.

Hi, I’m having a hard time getting on as well. I’ve repeatedly tried clearing my cache and rebooting and it doesn’t do any good. It was bad this afternoon (I guess early Friday evening in the US).

It’s definitely an issue at the Verizon end. It’s not related to bandwidth from what I can tell as the server simply disappears for a varying amount of time before responding again and Verizon gives no diversion page about exceeding the bandwidth (which is standard industry procedure for all hosting providers) to let the users and the site owner know that there is a bandwidth allocation issue. It could be anything from screwy routers at the server facility to faulty server hardware or a hardware upgrade that has gone bad.
The techs have been experimenting with a few “fixes” from different approaches to a few aspects of the problem. From my end, the board has seemed quicker in the mornings, which was the first issue they were addressing.
The evening 7-9 “prime time” busy period was the next issue on the hit list, but I haven’t gotten an update yet on the progress there.
I’ll report back when I have some more concrete answers. Lex, I’ll forward the info you provided in your last post.

This morning and between 1:40 and just recently (it’s now 1:20pm) it was a no-go.
Today (4-2-08) has been ridiculous. This morning from 10:30ish on has been very bad. I gave up trying until now (3:20pm).
I’m on DSL.
Just had another hiccup for a bit.
And a fairly long lasting one just now. Almost an hour or so it seems.
Same day still, but horrible around 8:30 - 8:46pm.
I’ve been having horrible problems the last couple weeks…especially bad today. And at any time of the day…10am, 3pm, 10pm.
It just hangs when I try to load the site.
Just wanted to let you know we’re not ignoring you, but I have no further info to provide right now.
We have been experiencing steadily increasing traffic to the site (March was 11% over February, for example), so these are likely some of the growing pains associated with that.
The mods feel your pain too, and our “team of dedicated experts” is working on solutions! :yes:

Inaccessible from 12noon to 1pm; every day, today from 1:30 and on; most days at 3:00pm; every day starting 8:00 for at least an hour.
these periods are usually about an hour in length of complete inaccessiblity, with many other intermittent periods of extreme sluggishness, as in go to get a cup of coffee while the page loads.
Am I the only one who is also having the board log me out approx. every 15 minutes or so if I am reading a long thread page or typing a long response. It’s a terrible pain. As in, I have to type my post on Word, copy and paste it into the reply box. Otherwise, my post just disappears when I hit Submit and there is no way to get it back! This is a fairly recent discovery. Is it a server saving option? If so, could the techies possibly make it just slightly longer before they kick me off? Pretty please? It’s driving me crazy!
